Purpose of Position
The Special Needs Summer Camp Assistant supports the Museum’s Summer Camp in delivering an inclusive, accessible, and supportive program for children with diverse learning, sensory, and communication needs.

Schedule: 7 weeks (Monday–Friday)
Duration: June 29 2026–August 14, 2026 (35 hours/week)
Hourly Rate: $21/hr

Key Responsibilities
· Support campers who require additional guidance, reassurance, or adapted instructions to fully participate in camp activities, using inclusive and trauma-informed approaches under staff supervision.
· Adapt and simplify arts-based programming by breaking down lessons and modifying materials to meet diverse learning needs and individual pacing.
· Supervise children throughout daily camp activities, including workshops, meals, breaks, and outdoor play, while supporting positive behaviour guidance, de-escalation, and emotional regulation strategies when needed.
· Assist in creating and maintaining inclusive, sensory-friendly environments, including quiet spaces and supporting children experiencing sensory overload with calming strategies and transitions.
· Support Educators in delivering arts programming inspired by Islamic art, geometry, calligraphy, and storytelling, including one-on-one and small group facilitation that encourages creative expression and participation.
· Assist with operational and administrative tasks such as sign-in/out procedures, attendance tracking, basic documentation, and use of digital tools for scheduling and communication.
· Communicate respectfully with caregivers and support accessible engagement, including families facing language or settlement barriers.
· Follow all health, safety, and program procedures, report concerns to senior staff.
· Any other duties as assigned by the Manager.

Qualifications & Experience
· Currently enrolled in high school, college, or university; preference will be given to candidates in relevant fields such as art history, studio arts, museum or cultural studies, education, child and youth care, or related disciplines.
· Previous experience in the arts and culture sector and/or working with children and youth in a community or educational program is considered an asset.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
· Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and support group activities.
· Patient, compassionate, and willing to learn and follow guidance from experienced staff.
· Interested in exploring careers in museums, teaching, community arts, or youth work; looking for structured, supported work experience to build confidence and a professional track record.
· Ability to work with children from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
· First Aid and CPR certification is an asset.
· A Vulnerable Sector Police Check will be required for successful candidates.
