Lloyd Hutton Transport has been moving livestock and freight since 1945— general freight going west, livestock coming back east. We’re looking for a Cattle Dispatcher to run our livestock lane and keep drivers, producers, and receivers moving as one team.
About the Role
The Cattle Dispatcher is the hub of our livestock operation. You’ll plan and assign loads, manage driver schedules across long-haul routes, handle documentation, and stay in constant contact with producers, feedlots, auction markets, and packers. You’re the person drivers call when plans change and the person shippers trust to get their cattle where they need to go, on time and in good condition.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, book, and dispatch livestock loads between Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Ontario
- Coordinate driver schedules while managing hours of service and animal welfare timelines
- Communicate daily with producers, buyers, sales barns, feedlots, and packers on load timing, pickup, and delivery
- Ensure all documentation is complete and compliant (CFIA Health of Animals Regulations, livestock manifests, health certificates, brand inspection paperwork where required)
- Track loads in real time and troubleshoot weather, breakdowns, market shifts, and border crossings
- Work with the maintenance team to keep livestock trailers wash-out ready and in service
- Build and maintain strong relationships with our long-standing customer base
- Support billing and rate confirmations in coordination with the office
What We’re Looking For
- Prior experience in livestock transportation dispatch, or a strong cattle-handling background combined with trucking/logistics experience
- Working knowledge of Canadian livestock transport regulations, CFIA requirements, and federal hours of service rules
- Solid familiarity with Ontario and Prairie geography (MB, SK, AB)
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills — calm under pressure
- Willingness to work flexible hours; livestock doesn’t run 9 to 5
- Detail-oriented approach to compliance and paperwork
- AXON dispatch software experience is a bonus but not required — we’ll train the right person
What We Offer
- Competitive salary based on experience
- Benefits package
- A stable, family-owned company with 80 years of industry reputation
- Real ownership of your lane — the authority to run it your way
- Supportive team that values long-term staff
