Position Summary:
Reporting to the Manager of Marketing and Communications, you will be responsible for creating visual content, coordinating various activities, assisting with marketing and communication efforts, and supporting our digital activities (website, social media and other online postings).
What you will be doing:
Content Development & Graphic Design
- Writing communications content for external communications including blog posts, social media, email and newsletters.
- Create visual content for various platforms including social media, newsletters, and event promotions using Canva and other graphic design tools
- Assist in designing marketing materials and maintaining brand consistency across all platforms and channels.
Marketing & Communications
- Support marketing team’s work to implement communications strategy to meet organizational goals and objectives.
- With guidance from Marketing team, develop social media content and post/implement across all channels; monitor and report on engagement and carry out daily checks.
- Make updates to website including to Big Sisters Community Board with news and updates for volunteers and mentees.
- Develop promotion materials for newsletters, social media, and other channels.
- Document activities (photo & video) for future use and ensure media waivers are on file.
Others
- Attends team, department, and organization meetings as required
- Participates in general agency functions, such as but not limited to, Volunteer Recognition Events, Fundraising Events, and other agency events
- Assists in general agency functioning and performs other duties as requested or required
What you bring:
Experience & Education
- Currently enrolled in or recently completed post-secondary education in Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design, or a related field
- Some experience (volunteer, academic, or paid) creating graphics for social media and marketing materials
- Experience writing or editing content for websites, social media platforms, and/or newsletters
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Proficiency in Canva for creating engaging digital content
- Familiarity with basic video editing for platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook
- Basic knowledge of digital platforms and tools such as WordPress, Later (or other scheduling tools), and Meta Ads Manager are assets
- Basic web design skills considered an asset
- Familiarity with graphic design software such as Adobe InDesign and Illustrator considered an asset
- Creative, innovative thinker with a strong interest in bringing new ideas to life
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining strong attention to detail
- Demonstrates a commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) principles
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills; self-motivated and collaborative
- Ability to handle information with discretion and respond with professionalism and sensitivity.

This Position:
This is a part-time volunteer position, 12 hours/week. The position is based in our Vancouver office on Joyce Street, directly across from the Joyce SkyTrain station, with a minimum of two days in-office. Some daytime travel, as well as occasional evening and weekend work, may be required. Flex or lieu time will be provided to accommodate additional hours worked.
