The Interlock Crew Leader is responsible for leading and supervising crews on interlock, retaining wall, and hardscape construction projects for residential, commercial, and municipal clients. This role requires extensive hands-on experience installing interlock patios, walkways, driveways, steps, pool decks, entrances, and other hardscape features, including all aspects of excavation, grading, base preparation, compaction, and finishing.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must possess a valid G-class insurable driver’s license
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in interlock, hardscape, or landscape construction
- Previous experience in a Crew Leader, Crew Manager, or supervisory role
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, site plans, and grade elevations
- Proficient in operating skid steers, mini excavators, plate compactors, and other landscape construction equipment
- Extensive experience installing interlock patios, walkways, driveways, steps, and retaining walls
- Experience installing some of the following: segmental block retaining walls, armour stone retaining walls, natural stone retaining walls, boulder retaining walls, segmented rock retaining walls
- Experience installing some of the following: interlock patios, interlock walkways, interlock driveways, interlock pool decks, interlock landings, interlock entrances, interlock steps/staircases,
- Strong understanding of grading, drainage, base preparation, and compaction requirements
- Knowledge of construction materials, installation methods, and safety procedures
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform physically demanding work regularly
- Use of personal mobile device for communication, time tracking, and project coordination
Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise interlock and hardscape construction crews on job sites
- Coordinate daily tasks, labour requirements, materials, and equipment needs
- Oversee the installation of interlock patios, walkways, driveways, steps, retaining walls, and related hardscape features
- Install segmental block retaining walls, reinforced retaining walls with geogrid, armour stone retaining walls, natural stone retaining walls, boulder retaining walls
- Perform excavation, grading, base preparation, and final installation work as required
- install interlock patios, interlock walkways, interlock driveways, interlock pool decks, interlock landings, interlock entrances, interlock steps/staircases,
- Operate construction equipment and tools safely and efficiently
- Ensure projects are completed according to company quality standards, specifications, and timelines
- Train, mentor, and support crew members to improve productivity, workmanship, and safety
- Monitor grades, elevations, drainage, and layout accuracy throughout project execution
- Communicate effectively with project managers, clients, suppliers, and team members
- Ensure compliance with all company safety policies and procedures
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional job site
- Work on other projects as assigned that are not interlock related, some concrete projects, some pool projects, some fencing, patios, paving projects etc.
- Load, unload, and transport materials, tools, and equipment as required
- Complete daily reporting, time tracking, and site documentation
- Assist with troubleshooting site challenges and adapting to changing conditions
- Conduct quality inspections throughout project completion
- Assume other duties and responsibilities as required
