Job Summary & Key Responsibilities
The part-time academic will be responsible for teaching: HPRO 3422 Environmental Health. The course will be offered in the winter term, from January 1st, 2027- April 30th, 2027. NOTE: This is an in-person course.
This course emphasizes the importance of the physical and social environments to the work of health promoters and other health professionals. The environment that we live in is a contributing factor of individual health and well-being. The course examines the influence of climate change, economic and cooperate determinants of health and the role of governmental policies in the disparities of health and well-being from a global perspective. Through in-class activities, written assignments, and presentations, students will explore the research aimed at understanding the impact of various global and climate determinants on the health on individuals and the health of communities. Students will explore strategies to maintain and enhance health and well-being locally, nationally, and internationally.
The part-time academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the course, including preparing and delivering lectures and preparation and grading of assignments. They will also be responsible for support for the labs. Teaching assistants will help with delivering lab content. The course will be taught using Brightspace (LMS- learning management system) and in-person on the Halifax Campus for the winter term. In addition, the part-time academic should expect to be engaged in course preparation in advance of the term. The part-time academic may consider offering one to two office hours outside of class time per week.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position
- Graduate degree in Kinesiology, Health Promotion or Recreation and Leisure Studies with demonstrated teaching ability preferred.
Salary Range/Pay Rate
As per CUPE collective agreement
