Position Summary
The Sanitation Supervisor plays a critical role in ensuring our facility consistently meets food safety, quality, and regulatory requirements. This role leads the sanitation team, oversees all cleaning activities, and ensures compliance with CFIA, HACCP, SQF, and internal programs.
You will be instrumental in supporting production efficiency, minimizing contamination risks, and maintaining a clean, safe, and audit-ready environment.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, coach, and support sanitation team members across shifts
- Assign and monitor daily cleaning tasks to ensure completion
- Conduct training, performance reviews, and corrective actions
- Manage staffing, scheduling, and shift coverage
Sanitation Operations
- Oversee daily, weekly, monthly, and deep-clean schedules
- Ensure proper sanitation of equipment, production lines, tanks, and facility areas
- Verify effective execution of CIP (Clean-in-Place) and COP (Clean-out-of-Place) procedures
- Support production changeovers and allergen cleaning requirements
Food Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with SQF, HACCP, CFIA, and internal standards
- Participate in internal and external audits and provide required documentation
- Conduct environmental monitoring (swabbing) and verification activities
- Investigate and report sanitation-related non-conformances
- Maintain accurate and timely sanitation records
Safety Management
- Enforce safety policies, including WHMIS and chemical handling procedures
- Ensure proper use of PPE by all team members
- Report and address hazards, incidents, and near misses
- Promote a strong safety culture through training and engagement
Continuous Improvement
- Identify and implement improvements in sanitation processes and efficiency
- Collaborate with Production and Maintenance to resolve issues
- Recommend enhancements to cleaning methods, tools, and chemicals
- Participate in root cause analysis for food safety and quality concerns
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of sanitation experience in food manufacturing or similar environment
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of HACCP, SQF, CFIA, GMPs, and sanitation best practices
- Familiarity with cleaning chemicals, safety protocols, and WHMIS
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
- Flexible to work various shifts based on operational needs
- Comfortable working in cold, wet, and high-moisture environments
Working Conditions
- Manufacturing environment with exposure to moisture, cleaning chemicals, and equipment noise
- Physical requirements include lifting (up to 50 lbs), bending, climbing, and prolonged standing
- Flexibility in hours is required, with work scheduled across days, nights, and off shifts based on production cycles, CIP timing, training requirements, and task verification. Availability is expected whenever needed to effectively oversee sanitation execution.
