Overview
We are looking for an experienced self-starter to join our team. As controller, you will be responsible for the organization's overall financial management, including overseeing accounting operations, preparing year end financial statements and reports, managing cashflows, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
Reporting to the President, this role offers an opportunity join a growing company. This role requires previous experience in construction and/or real estate development.
Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of accounting operations
- Responsible for multiple companies and as such, must be mindful of privacy among shareholders of each entity
- Maintain intercompany balances and oversee monthly reconciliation
- Oversee accounting team members
- Support team on the creation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Coordinate preparation of budgets and forecasts
- Prepare interim and year end packages for accountant
- Oversee payroll
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations (HST remittance)
- Monitor internal control systems to ensure they are operating effectively
- Serve as the primary contact for auditors, bankers and tax authorities
- Train and supervise junior accounting staff
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Strategic, forward-looking thinker
- Highly organized with excellent analytic skills
- Ability to work independently and multi-task
- Experience with Sage 50 (including project tracking in Sage 50) and Quickbooks
- Knowledge and ability to identify scam/fraudulent communications and activity
- Self-starter with the ability to manage competing priorities
- Post-secondary education (CA/CPA designation an asset)
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role
- Construction and / or Real Estate Development accounting is an asset
Compensation will be based on experience.
Job Type: Permanent
Pay: $90,000.00-$115,000.00 per year
