Role Overview
DEI’s goal is to hire a confident mechanical designer with three to five years of experience completing mechanical design in the building service industry.
This position is a growth position and not for a current vacancy.
The successful candidate will be required to:
- Develop, with oversight from a Senior Mechanical Engineer as required, the technical design for various building mechanical systems from preliminary design phases through to completion including but not limited to HVAC, hydronic heating & cooling, plumbing and drainage, and fire protection.
- Assist Senior Mechanical Engineer to effectively resolve construction issues, manage client expectations, review construction sites, liaise with contractors, and other contract administration requirements.
- Performing or reviewing design calculations of these systems, attending design meetings to represent the mechanical discipline, selecting relevant equipment, management of other junior mechanical team members, overseeing / completing the drafting and modeling of assigned projects, coordination of mechanical systems with electrical, architectural, structural, and other disciplines, and contract administration requirements.
- Be responsible for drafting (AutoCAD) or modeling (Revit) mechanical systems for projects with minimum instructions from Senior Mechanical Engineer, as well as provide direction and mark-up for junior team members.
- Be responsible for design document updates and reissuance of drawings and sketches to assist Senior staff for issuing site instructions, change notices and addenda throughout the construction portion of a project.
Qualifications
- Three to five years of mechanical engineering experience in the building service industry.
- University degree or diploma from an accredited engineering program.
- Eligible to purse or has obtained a P.Eng. or LEL designation with Professional Engineers Ontario or an OACETT certification (C.E.T., C.Tech.).
- Demonstrated ability to effectively utilize AutoCAD and / or Revit to prepare mechanical design documents.
- Strong technical knowledge and ability to deliver mechanical designs for a variety of building types, including, but not limited to heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, plumbing and drainage systems, building automation systems / controls, fire protection systems.
- Knowledge of Canadian and Ontario Building codes and standards including OBC SB-1, SB-4 & SB-10 supplementary standards, NFPA 13, NFPA 14, CSA B149.1, ASHRAE 62.1, and ASHRAE 90.1.
- Experience with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook) is required.
- Excellent time management skills, ability to think analytically, attention to detail, resourceful and detail-oriented, and team and customer service focused.
- Ability to effectively resolve construction issues, manage client expectations, review construction sites, liaise with contractors, and other contract administration requirements.
- Ability to supervise and provide instructions and markups to junior staff is considered an asset.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to work effectively in a team environment.

Pay: $27.00-$40.00 per hour
