Job Description
The cook is responsible for the food services, such as meal/snack planning, preparation, serving and clean up.
Educational Qualifications:
College or vocational training in the area of food service
Chef qualifications preferred
Must be certified in Safe Food Handling.
Possess the physical ability to carry out duties of the position
Work Experience Qualifications:
- Excellent interpersonal, communication skills both verbal and written.
- Able to work independently and in cooperation with others as part of a team.
- Dedicated, efficient, quick and able to multitask with a flair for creativity and a keen sense of taste and smell.
- Competent in menu planning and portions, planning for dietary restrictions, allergies, and special populations while adhering to Canada Food Guide.
- Possess experience in quantity food preparation and ensure all meals and snacks are cooked to provide maximum nutrition value and presentation.
- Experience cooking for groups of children ranging in age from 0 mths to 4 years is preferred
- Able to maintain safe work habits in accordance with all government regulations and Health codes.
- Ability to do food supply orders, maintain inventory control of food item/ supplies and maximize utilization in accordance with the budget.
- Maintain proper receipts and submit record of expenditures to the Child Care Manager.
- Ensure proper organization, cleaning and sanitation of dishes, cooking utensils, kitchen equipment, countertop surfaces, and storage cupboards.
- Ability to relate well to children
- Committed to ongoing training.

- What experience do you have cooking for young children ages 3mths to 4 years of age? And can you create a 4 week rotational menu for the above age groups that is diverse? This menu is to include morning breakfast like snack and afternoon snack that can be altered for infants, toddlers and preschoolers as well as lunch for all age groups. The menu must also be egg and peanut free.
Education:
- AEC / DEP or Skilled Trade Certificate (preferred)
Experience:
- menu plannning and cooking: 1 year (required)
- cooking and menu planning: 1 year (required)
- cooking for children: 1 year (required)
Licence/Certification:
- Canadian Food Handlers certificate (required)
