About Weston Manufacturing Ltd.
Weston Manufacturing Ltd. is a family-owned structural steel fabrication company in Fort Macleod, Alberta. We take pride in our craftsmanship and the people behind it. We're looking for a motivated, detail-oriented Steel Detailing and CNC File Technician to support our CNC and automation workflows.
This role is a strong fit for someone with CAD or 3D design experience who wants to grow into CNC file preparation, fabrication processes, and shop automation. We're happy to train the right person — what matters most is attention to detail and a genuine interest in learning.
What You'll Do
- Read, interpret, and work from shop drawings and fabrication blueprints with a high level of accuracy
- Prepare and clean up drawing files (STEP, NC1, IGS, ZX, DXF, NC) for production on laser and beamline CNC machines
- Organize and manage digital files according to company naming and storage standards
- Catch and correct file errors before they reach the shop floor
- Assist with file prep for custom and walk-in customer projects
- Collaborate with project managers and production staff to prevent delays and keep workflow moving
- Support ongoing automation improvements by ensuring files are accurate and production-ready
What We're Looking For
- Ability to read and interpret shop drawings and technical fabrication documents in detail
- Experience with 3D design software such as Fusion 360, AutoCAD, or SketchUp
- Strong attention to detail and file organization habits
- Ability to follow technical guidelines and communicate clearly across teams
- Interest in CNC workflows, digital file prep, and fabrication processes
- Willingness to learn in a hands-on environment
- Ability to commute to or relocate to Fort Macleod, AB (required)
Nice to Have (Not Required)
- Experience in a fabrication or manufacturing setting
- Familiarity with CNC or laser cutting equipment
- Knowledge of structural steel file formats (STEP, NC1, IGS, DXF)
- Experience with Airtable or similar shop management tools
