Toronto Metal Traders is a growing recycling and waste services company specializing in automotive scrap metal recycling and bin rental services across the Greater Toronto Area.
We work primarily with new car dealerships, repair facilities, businesses, and homeowners by providing scrap metal collection, recycling solutions, and bin rental services. Our focus is on delivering reliable service, transparent pricing, and building long-term relationships with our customers.
About the Role
This hands-on position combines driving, physical work, organization, and customer interaction. The successful candidate will be responsible for servicing scheduled client locations, collecting automotive scrap metal, maintaining professional relationships with customers, and ensuring materials are organized and processed properly.
Duties
- Drive a company cargo van to service scheduled client locations.
- Collect automotive scrap metal such as brake rotors, rims, batteries, catalytic converters, starters, alternators, and other recyclable materials.
- Load and unload scrap metal from the cargo van.
- Manually lift and handle materials (some items can weigh 35 lbs or more).
- Segregate and organize different types of scrap metal materials.
- Interact professionally with service managers and dealership staff.
- Issue invoices and record transactions.
- Follow a structured pickup route across the GTA.
- Maintain organization of materials, paperwork, and inventory.
- Use a smartphone for routing, communication, photos, and reporting as required.
- Assist with general yard and warehouse duties when necessary.
Qualifications
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
- Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently.
- Strong knowledge of traffic laws and safety regulations.
- Physical ability to lift heavy objects and perform manual tasks as needed.
- Must be comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Good communication skills and professional demeanor.
- Ability to work independently and follow directions accurately.
- Reliable, punctual, and organized.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
Nice to Have
- Experience operating a hooklift truck or bin truck.
- Experience driving a cargo van.
Pre-Employment Requirements
- Successful candidates will be required to provide a recent Criminal Record Check before employment begins.
- A driver's abstract and proof of automobile insurance history may be requested as part of the hiring process.
- Candidates must be insurable under the company's commercial auto insurance policy.
- Any misrepresentation of driving history, license status, or criminal background may result in disqualification from the hiring process or termination of employment.
Growth Opportunity
- This role offers the opportunity to gain experience operating a variety of company vehicles and equipment, including cargo vans and hooklift trucks.
- As the company continues to grow, there may be opportunities to take on additional responsibilities in operations, routing, customer service, and business development.
- Additional commission-based compensation may be available for generating new accounts and bringing in new business.
Compensation
- Expected annual earnings of approximately $55,000-$60,000.
- First month will be a probationary period paid at $22 per hour.
- During the probationary period, shifts are expected to be approximately 5–6 hours per day while training and workload are evaluated.
- Upon successful completion of probation, compensation will transition to the agreed salary or compensation structure.
- Year-end bonuses may be awarded based on individual performance, company performance, and overall contribution to the business.
- Compensation structure can be discussed based on experience.
- Open to either subcontractor or employee arrangements.
Schedule
- Monday to Friday.
- Day shifts primarily.
- Occasional weekend work may be required to support operational needs, bin deliveries, exchanges, pickups, or customer service requirements.
- Weekend work is expected to be infrequent and will be communicated in advance whenever possible.
Pay: From $60,000.00 per year
