Job Summary
Student Recruitment and Marketing (SRM) supports Dalhousie University’s strategic priorities by working with faculties, departments, and units to tell the stories of the students, faculty, and staff who make Dalhousie an extraordinary place. Reporting to the Visual Media Manager, the Visual Content Specialist – Photography supports photography (primarily) and video production and editing (secondarily). This position focuses on capturing and editing photography for recruitment, marketing, events, institutional communications, and digital storytelling initiatives, while also supporting short-form video production and related editing needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute photography coverage across recruitment initiatives, campus events, convocation, athletics, marketing campaigns, academic environments, and institutional communications.
- Plan and manage photography sessions independently, including lighting, equipment setup, subject coordination, composition, and on-site problem solving.
- Capture, edit, and retouch high-quality visual content for web, social, print, and marketing channels, ensuring alignment with university brand standards.
- Support the production and editing of short-form video content for digital platforms, including filming, basic audio and colour correction, and formatting for multiple channels.
- Maintain and organize digital asset libraries, ensuring proper file management, labelling, archiving, and adherence to Creative Studio workflows.
- Collaborate with internal clients to coordinate deliverables, provide production support, and contribute to continuous improvement through use of digital tools and emerging technologies.

The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work from within Nova Scotia) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- Photography or videography course with five years’ related experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
- Strong photography skills with an understanding of composition, lighting, visual storytelling, and brand-aligned content creation. Experience independently leading photography shoots in fast-paced, live-event, editorial, or institutional environments.
- Experience capturing and editing short-form video content for social and digital platforms.
- Openness to learning and using emerging technologies (including AI tools) to improve efficiency, quality, or accessibility of visual content. Understanding of photography and video formats for social media, web, marketing, and print applications.
- Strong proficiency in Lightroom Classic and Adobe Photoshop with familiarity with Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro, or DaVinci Resolve.
- Able to troubleshoot basic workflow, lighting, audio, or equipment issues.
