The manager is responsible for the Infrastructure and Process Planning Section including scheduling staff tasks, performance reviews, and budgeting. Manager, consulting with infrastructure architect and senior technical manager will be responsible for technical infrastructure and process decisions during product design development and review.
Provide infrastructure and process design expertise in support of OCLC portfolio and other technical objectives. Specific deliverables and liaison points as described in section A. Prepare designs that leverage the service catalog and that are consistent with OCLC’s long-term architectural goals.
The group plays a critical role in product maturity management process, with key deliverables during product planning (ERP / budget, SRA, input into portfolio business plans), during release planning (designs and service catalog development), and during development / testing and release managements phase (capacity planning).
Responsibilities:

Work with software development to develop service designs and designs for infrastructure, outsourced services, and processes to realize product management requirements. The designs should be comprehensive in nature including production (to run in multiple data centers or hosting providers) as well as quality assurance and performance test environments. The designs should also account for capacity models (with requirements from production management and development) and product SLA’s. Once the design is complete, it is handed off to a separate group for implementation.

Support product management planning process. Working with business analysts, translate high-level business requirements (as described in the portfolio business plans) into high-level, actionable system requirements that are included in the portfolio business plans (an iterative process.) These system requirements, should be aggregated to account for cross portfolio activities and to ensure maximum utilization of shared resources, are then used as input to the ERP budgeting process.

Support ERP planning processes. Prepare detailed SRAs in support of business plans. Assist with development of systems budget based on requirements from product portfolios, active projects, and in support of organic growth (as determined by capacity planning models.)

Perform capacity planning based on information gathered from the release managers, business analyst participants and historical consumption. Prepare recommendations to service design (increasing the number of CPUs, memory configuration, etc) to realize the new capacity model. Hand off requirements to contracts administration.

Manage technical staff including: planning, organizing, training, directing, motivating, evaluating, and controlling. Performing all administrative duties necessary for ongoing support of section’s activities including budgeting, staff selection, staff performance evaluation, progress and time reporting, and other administrative functions as needed.

Evaluate new technologies, methods or processes and make recommendations for implementation in support of improvements to service delivery, new functionality or cost reduction.
Required Qualifications:

This position requires strong technical and management skills. Incumbent should have an undergraduate degree in computer-related discipline and/or a combination of academic background and practical experience. Good communication skills.

Previous management experience is a plus.

Broad exposure to a variety of computer concepts, machine architecture, analysis and design approaches, and excellent knowledge of storage management techniques.
Desired Qualifications:
An advanced degree in computer or business management is desirable.
