About the role
We are looking for a skilled, self-driven Produce Prep Clerk to join our small team. This is a fast-moving prep environment — you will be responsible for washing, cutting, portioning, and packaging fresh fruits and vegetables to a high standard, at a consistent pace, with minimal direction. This is not an entry-level role for someone new to food prep — if you've worked in a kitchen, deli, or similar high-volume environment, take pride in clean work, and can keep up quality and speed through a full shift without needing step-by-step direction, we want to hear from you.
Key responsibilities
- Wash, peel, cut, slice, and portion a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables to specification, efficiently and consistently throughout the shift
- Package and label pre-cut produce with accurate weights, pricing, and best-before dates
- Inspect all product before and during prep — identifying and discarding any damaged, bruised, or substandard pieces
- Rotate pre-cut stock using FIFO practices to ensure freshness and minimize waste
- Work comfortably in refrigerated prep areas and walk-in coolers throughout the shift
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards — including proper knife handling, surface cleaning, and temperature control protocols
- Clean, sanitize, and maintain prep equipment, cutting boards, and work surfaces throughout and at the end of each shift
- Keep the pre-cut display section stocked, tidy, and visually appealing
What we're looking for
- Previous experience in a commercial kitchen, deli, or high-volume food prep environment is strongly preferred
- Demonstrated knife skills and the ability to work at a steady, efficient pace are required — this is a high-output prep role and prior cutting or food prep experience is a must
- Exceptional attention to detail — you notice imperfections others miss and hold yourself to a high standard on every item you prepare
- Takes initiative and manages their own time well — we are looking for someone who maintains quality and pace with minimal supervision, without needing ongoing direction or reminders
- Knowledge of food safety and handling practices; a Food Handler Certificate is an asset (or willingness to obtain one)
- Comfortable working in cold environments, including walk-in refrigerators and chilled prep areas
- Physical stamina to stand and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods
- Reliable, punctual, and takes pride in a clean and well-run workspace
Working conditions
- Weekend availability may be required
- Regular exposure to cold temperatures in prep and refrigerated areas
- Repetitive, hands-on role requiring sustained focus and physical stamina throughout the shift
