Habitat for Humanity Thunder Bay is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building strength, stability, and independence through affordable homeownership. Our ReStore supports this mission by generating revenue through the sale of donated furniture, building materials, and household items.
Position Summary
The Customer Experience Associate plays a key frontline role in delivering an outstanding shopping and donation experience at the ReStore. This position supports day-to-day retail operations, engages customers and donors, and ensures the store is welcoming, organized, and mission-driven.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service & Engagement
- Provide friendly, professional, and knowledgeable service to all customers and donors
- Create a welcoming and inclusive store environment
- Communicate Habitat’s mission and impact to the public
- Assist customers with product inquiries, purchases, and loading items when required
Sales & Retail Operations
- Operate the point-of-sale system accurately and efficiently
- Process purchases, donations, and returns in accordance with policies
- Maintain awareness of store promotions and pricing guidelines
- Support merchandising efforts to maximize sales and customer experience
Donations & Inventory Support
- Receive and assess incoming donations in a respectful and professional manner
- Assist with sorting, cleaning, pricing, and stocking merchandise
- Ensure quality standards are met for all items placed on the sales floor
Store Presentation & Safety
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe retail environment
- Participate in daily store upkeep, including displays and restocking
- Follow all health and safety procedures and organizational policies
Qualifications & Skills
- Previous retail or customer service experience preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment
- Comfortable with physical tasks, including lifting and moving furniture items
- Reliable, punctual, and adaptable
- Passion for community service and Habitat for Humanity’s mission
Working Conditions
- Retail environment with frequent interaction with the public
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks
- Flexible hours including weekends and occasional evenings
