As a Spiritual Health Associate, you will provide compassionate, person-centred spiritual care and support to patients and families experiencing acute spiritual, emotional, or existential distress during some of life's most challenging moments.
This casual, on-call position offers a meaningful opportunity to make a difference while working alongside an interdisciplinary healthcare team in one of Ontario's leading academic health sciences centres.
As a Spiritual Health Associate, you will:
- Respond to urgent spiritual care referrals through the on-call/call-back system during evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Provide immediate, compassionate spiritual support to patients and families experiencing spiritual distress.
- Assess individual spiritual, religious, cultural, and worldview needs and deliver appropriate interventions.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to support holistic, patient- and family-centred care.
- Communicate relevant updates to referring healthcare providers when appropriate.
- Document clinical encounters in the patient health record and record workload data.
- Facilitate referrals for ongoing spiritual care follow-up when required.
- Master's degree in Theology, Spiritual Care, or a related field.
- Completion of one (1) Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC) Supervised Pastoral Education course.
- Category 1 or Category 2 Competency Level Associate Membership with the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC).
- Minimum one (1) year of relevant clinical experience.
- Faith group endorsement.
- Demonstrated counselling, assessment, and clinical intervention skills.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational abilities.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural, spiritual, and religious backgrounds.
- Knowledge of applicable legislation and professional standards related to healthcare practice.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, work independently, and respond effectively in crisis situations.
- Demonstrated commitment to confidentiality and professional ethics.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with healthcare teams, volunteers, and community resources.
- Proven ability to attend work regularly.
- Must reside within the Kingston area and be able to respond from home within 20–30 minutes when called in.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening required.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the position.
