Organization: Shift Ground Axis
Location: Winnipeg, MB
Work arrangement: Hybrid
Job type: Internship / Full-time temporary
Duration: July 6, 2026 – December 31, 2026
Hours: 30 hours per week
Pay: $18–$22 per hour, depending on experience and final funding approval
About the Role
Shift Ground Axis is hiring an Agri-STEM & Food Systems Research Intern to support our Groundwork Pathways initiative. THIS IS A PAID INTERNSHIP
This role is ideal for a young person interested in food systems, agriculture, hydroponics, controlled-environment growing, greenhouses, community food security, Agri-STEM, research, and youth employment pathways.
The intern will help us learn from people and organizations already doing food systems, agriculture, growing, training, and community food work in Manitoba. This may include research, field visits, partner conversations, site visits, documentation, and helping us understand what is already working locally.
This is not a traditional farm labour role. It is a research, learning, documentation, and partnership-support role focused on food systems and Agri-STEM pathways.
Key Responsibilities
The intern may support the following activities:
- Research food systems, agriculture, hydroponics, greenhouses, controlled-environment agriculture, and modular growing models.
- Learn about Manitoba organizations, farms, growers, community food projects, training programs, and technical partners already working in this space.
- Support possible field visits, site visits, partner meetings, and learning conversations.
- Take notes and prepare clear summaries from research, meetings, and visits.
- Help prepare simple briefs, learning materials, and internal planning documents.
- Explore what youth need to learn to enter Agri-STEM, food systems, growing, and green economy pathways.
- Help document practical requirements for future food systems projects, such as training, maintenance, growing knowledge, partnerships, equipment, and site-readiness.
- Support planning for future youth learning opportunities connected to food systems, hydroponics, community growing, and Agri-STEM.
- Work with Shift Ground Axis staff to turn research and field learning into practical next steps.
Who We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone who is curious, reliable, organized, and interested in learning.
You do not need to be an expert in agriculture or hydroponics. This is an internship, so we are looking for someone with strong interest, willingness to learn, and the ability to follow through.
