Rotational shifts - Days are 7AM-3PM, afternoons are 3PM-11PM, rotating every 2 weeks
We are seeking a detail-oriented and mechanically skilled Assembly Operator to join our manufacturing team. This role is responsible for the precise assembly of small, medium, and large flat-stacked transformer core assemblies using steel laminations. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude, experience working in a manufacturing environment, and a commitment to producing high-quality products that meet customer specifications while following strict safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble small, medium, and large flat-stacked transformer cores using steel laminations according to work instructions, engineering drawings, and blueprints
- Accurately stack, align, and interleave steel laminations to build transformer core assemblies
- Install core supports, clamps, and insulation materials as required
- Ensure proper orientation and stacking sequence to meet electrical and customer specifications
- Use precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and rulers to verify dimensions and tolerances
- Operate core stacking tables, lifting devices, hoists, overhead cranes, and other material handling equipment safely
- Perform visual and dimensional inspections throughout the assembly process to maintain quality standards
- Identify and report defects, quality concerns, or non-conforming materials to supervisors or the Quality department
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area following 5S principles
- Complete production documentation, checklists, and work records accurately
- Review production schedules before each shift and ensure tools and materials are available
- Work collaboratively with production teams, material handlers, engineering, quality, and supervisors
- Meet daily production targets while maintaining safety and quality standards
- Follow all Safe Work Procedures, Job Instructions, and Quality Plans
- Perform other duties as assigned
Education & Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED/CAEC) required
- Technical or vocational training is considered an asset
- 5–7 years of experience in a manufacturing or production environment
- Previous experience operating production machinery or industrial equipment preferred
- Experience in transformer assembly, steel fabrication, or heavy manufacturing is considered an asset
Skills & Competencies
- Forklift and overhead crane certification required (or ability to obtain)
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical documents
- Experience using precision measuring tools, including calipers, micrometers, and rulers
- Strong mathematical and measurement skills
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Well organized and able to work efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Manufacturing/industrial environment
- Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times
- Exposure to loud noise and factory conditions
- Must be available to work continental rotating shifts
- Physically able to:
- Lift up to 50 lbs
- Perform repetitive tasks and movements
- Stand, walk, bend, crouch, and kneel for extended periods
- Work safely around industrial equipment and machinery
- Handle tools, steel laminations, and mechanical components with precision
