Townsview Estates is a 51-bed long-term care facility located in Truro, NS, licensed by the Province of Nova Scotia. Position Scope
We are seeking a flexible and reliable employee who is willing to be cross trained in both our Housekeeping and Dietary departments. This casual support services role provides same-day coverage for sick calls and other staffing needs, helping to ensure continuity of services for our residents. Shifts may also be scheduled to cover vacation requests for permanent employees.
The ideal candidate is dependable, and able to transition between housekeeping and dietary duties based on operational requirements. They must be available to accept short notice shifts, work collaboratively as part of the team, and be committed to maintaining high standards of cleanliness, infection prevention and control, food safety, and resident service.
Responsibilities
1. Dietary Services
This role involves structured routines that include meal service setup, dishwashing, food prep assistance, sanitation duties, and direct interaction with residents during mealtimes. The Dietary Aide contributes to residents’ quality of life by promoting a respectful, home-like dining experience and ensuring that dietary standards, hygiene, and safety protocols are consistently met.
Dietary aide hours are 7am-6pm
2. Housekeeping and Laundry Services
The Housekeeper is responsible for supporting a clean, safe, and comfortable living environment for residents, staff, and visitors. This role plays an essential part in infection prevention and control, overall facility presentation, and the day‑to‑day well‑being residents and staff. Working as part of the care team, the Housekeeper ensures that resident rooms, common areas, and service spaces are maintained to organizational standards and in alignment with applicable Nova Scotia regulations and best practices.
Housekeeping hours are 7am-3pm
3*. General Responsibilities*
o Adhere to infection prevention and control (IPAC), workplace health and safety, and organizational policies and procedures.
o Promote resident dignity, privacy, and independence while providing services.
o Work collaboratively with team members and provide support across dietary and housekeeping functions as operational needs require.
o Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
o Complete required documentation and communicate concerns or observations to the appropriate supervisor.
o Perform other related duties within the scope of the position as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
1. Previous housekeeping or dishwashing experience is an asset.
2. Ability to follow established cleaning routines, infection prevention and control practices, and workplace safety procedures.
3. Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.
4. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a resident‑focused setting.
5. Ability to safely use cleaning equipment, tools, and chemicals in accordance with WHMIS training (training provided).
6. Physical stamina
7. Reliable, punctual, and able to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
8. Current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search required prior to employment.
9. Reliable transportation to employment.
Pay: From $20.00 per hour
