Electrical Engineering Team Lead – High Voltage, Power Systems & Infrastructure
Are you a senior power systems engineer who thrives on technical ownership? Do you possess the expertise to lead high-voltage projects from initial design to site commissioning? Are you looking for a role where you can provide engineering accountability, seal critical documents, and mentor the next generation of designers in a fast-paced, "hands-on" environment?
If so, Smith and Long is looking for YOU to join our team as our new Electrical Engineering Team Lead!
In this essential role, you will act as the backbone of our high-voltage division. You will lead by expertise, ensuring every substation, transformer, and distribution system we deliver is safe, code-compliant, and constructible. This is a role for a leader who isn't afraid to get involved in the technical "nitty-gritty" while maintaining the high-level vision of the project lifecycle.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
· Technical Leadership: Provide day-to-day guidance and technical coaching to electrical engineers, designers, and technicians.
· Scope Execution: Lead high-voltage project execution including substations, E-houses, transformers, switchgear, and lightning protection systems.
· Design & Sealing: Develop, review, and seal electrical designs, including single-line diagrams, protection philosophies, and grounding studies.
· Standards & Compliance: Ensure all deliverables meet CEC, CSA, IEEE, IEC, utility, and client-specific standards.
· Field & Factory Support: Support factory acceptance tests (FAT), site commissioning, energization, and outage activities.
· Stakeholder Coordination: Act as the primary technical interface with utilities, inspectors, contractors, and clients.
· Project Oversight: Own electrical planning, task coordination, and schedules to ensure results are delivered on complex, multi-phase projects.
What You Bring to the Table:
· Credentials: A Professional Engineer (P.Eng) license in good standing is required.
· Experience: Minimum 4 years of experience specifically in high-voltage power systems, substations, or infrastructure.
· Technical Mastery: Strong hands-on knowledge of HV protection principles, relay coordination, and grounding/bonding systems.
· Software Proficiency: Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical or similar electrical design tools.
· Leadership Mindset: Proven ability to lead technically, manage priorities, and promote a disciplined safety culture.
· Bonus Skills: Experience with temporary high-voltage power systems or integration-level knowledge of PLC/SCADA systems is a strong asset.
