Job Overview
Qorsa is a Canadian post-quantum cryptography and cybersecurity company headquartered in Waterloo, Ontario. We build crypto-agile security infrastructure and explainable AI-driven threat intelligence for enterprise, government and defence customers across Canada, NATO, and allied nations. We are seeking a technically sharp and assertive IT Operations Manager to manage our internal IT environment end-to-end. The ideal candidate will serve as the single point of authority for our Microsoft 365 tenant, endpoint management, identity and access management, and security compliance posture. This role also serves as the primary interface to our managed service provider (MSP), holding them accountable to SLAs and ensuring work is completed correctly, on time, and to our standards. This is not a helpdesk role - the IT Operations Manager will be expected to understand compliance obligations, architect solutions that meet them, and push back on vendors when their work doesn't measure up. This position reports directly to company leadership.
Duties
- Administer and optimize our Microsoft 365 environment, including Entra ID, Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, and Microsoft Defender.
- Manage endpoint security and device compliance through Microsoft Intune and Autopilot.
- Own and maintain our security compliance posture across NIST, CIS benchmarks, and related frameworks relevant to defence-adjacent organizations.
- Serve as the day-to-day point of contact with our MSP — reviewing their work, directing priorities, escalating failures, and ensuring accountability against SLAs.
- Manage onboarding/offboarding workflows, access provisioning, MFA policies, conditional access rules, and DLP configurations.
- Evaluate and recommend tooling, licensing changes, and infrastructure improvements to leadership.
- Maintain thorough documentation of IT policies, procedures, system configurations, and architecture.
- Support internal teams with IT issues that fall outside the MSP's scope, including troubleshooting across Windows and cloud environments.
- Coordinate with vendors for hardware and software procurement and manage vendor relationships effectively.
- Monitor system performance metrics and implement continuous improvements to reliability, security, and user experience.
Experience
- Canadian citizen (required - this role supports operations tied to Canadian defence and government programs requiring security clearance eligibility).
- 3–7 years of hands-on experience administering Microsoft 365 in a business environment.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Intune, Entra ID (Azure AD), Conditional Access, and the Microsoft Defender suite.
- Familiarity with NIST security frameworks and the ability to translate compliance requirements into practical configurations.
- Experience managing or working closely with a managed service provider - demonstrated ability to hold vendors to account and escalate effectively.
- Proficiency in PowerShell scripting for automation and administration tasks.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical decisions to leadership and push back on a vendor in the same afternoon.
- Self-directed and comfortable operating with autonomy in a fast-moving, technically rigorous environment.
- Bonus: experience with AWS administration, Sophos, or working in a defence/government-adjacent environment.
- Bonus: relevant certifications such as Microsoft 365 Certified: Administrator Expert, CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or similar.
This position offers the opportunity to shape IT policy and infrastructure from the ground up at a scaling security company, with direct access to leadership and a team building things that matter.
