Job Summary
The Material Attendant is responsible for receiving, validating, stocking, issuing and reconciling materials to support warehouse and shop operations. The incumbent maintains inventory accuracy in SAP, ensures materials are stored in valid bin locations, processes stock movements and core returns, and supports timely replenishment through effective inventory control practices.
Major Responsibilities
- Receive materials, validate deliveries, complete SAP receipts and ensure materials are stocked in the warehouse with accurate documentation
- Process goods issues for stock transport order shipments and material reservations, including required paperwork
- Ensure all stocked material has valid bin locations and maintain an organized, efficient warehouse environment
- Perform daily demand counts and reconcile inventory to the correct work order to support inventory accuracy
- Notify the appropriate contacts when material levels are low to support timely stock replenishment
- Charge material to locomotives through work orders as directed by the Supervisor
Support inventory level monitoring and adjustments and perform the physical movement of materials using material handling equipment, including forklifts

Working Conditions
- The incumbent performs the work in a combination of office, warehouse and outdoor environments in various types of weather conditions with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday
- The incumbent is required to use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- The incumbent is required to operate forklifts and other material handling equipment
- The incumbent must have the ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
The incumbent must be able to work in a team environment as well as independently in a self-driven, organized manner and be able to multi-task

Requirements
- Must be a qualified Material Handler or be able to qualify as a Material Handler
- Must be a CN-certified forklift operator or be able to qualify and be medically fit to operate a forklift
- Must have a valid Driver’s License
- Must have sound knowledge of inventory control practices and demonstrate proficiency in SAP, SRM, Excel and Word
- Must be aware of the rules and regulations related to the transportation and handling of dangerous goods and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), and pass a proficiency test if required
- Must have sound knowledge of core inventory processes and the ability to identify EMD core materials
- Must comply with mechanical rules and policies
Must have good knowledge of material management processes and procedures

This position is a unionized position, as such pay and benefits are governed by the applicable Collective Agreement.
Paid Training
The position will receive training at the beginning of employment with CN for three weeks. Training will be given on an ongoing basis as required to build the incumbent’s competency.
