About the Opportunity
Our client, GT Painting, is a well-established and highly respected commercial and residential painting contractor with a strong reputation for delivering quality work, exceptional customer service, and long-term client relationships across Atlantic Canada. Having built a successful business with an entrepreneurial mindset, the company is entering its next phase of growth.
With an established operation in Nova Scotia and a recently expanded presence in New Brunswick, the business is seeking a General Manager to partner closely with the Owner to help scale the organization, strengthen operations, and build the foundation for continued growth.
This is more than a traditional operations role. It is an opportunity to become the operational leader of a growing company—someone who thrives on building teams, improving processes, driving accountability, and creating sustainable growth. The ideal candidate is an ambitious, high-energy leader who wants to help build something meaningful and leave a lasting impact on the business.
The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Owner, the General Manager will assume full operational leadership of the business with accountability for profitability, operational performance, team leadership, and strategic execution. As the operational counterpart to the Owner, you will translate vision into execution by ensuring projects, people, systems, and financial performance are aligned to achieve the company's long-term objectives. This individual will serve as the organization's Integrator, bringing structure, discipline, and accountability across all areas of the business while fostering a culture focused on collaboration, performance, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day operations of the company while ensuring alignment with long-term strategic objectives.
- Assume full accountability for the organization's P&L, driving profitability, operational efficiency, and financial performance.
- Develop and execute operational strategies that support sustainable growth across Atlantic Canada.
- Partner closely with the Owner to translate business vision into actionable plans and measurable results.
- Identify opportunities for expansion, operational improvements, and new revenue streams.
- Provide leadership across estimating, project management, field operations, scheduling, and resource planning.
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
- Improve operational systems, workflows, and processes to support scalability.
- Monitor key performance indicators and implement initiatives that improve productivity and profitability.
- Build operational consistency across multiple locations, including the company's growing New Brunswick operation.
- Develop financial strategies that support sustainable growth while maintaining operational excellence.
- Lead, coach, and develop managers and field leadership while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
What We're Looking For
We're seeking a proven operational leader who has successfully helped grow a business and enjoys building organizations rather than simply maintaining them. You may come from commercial construction, industrial services, manufacturing, facilities services, specialty contracting, transportation, distribution, or another project-driven environment where operational excellence, strong leadership, and customer service are critical to success.
The successful candidate is a strategic yet hands-on leader who combines strong commercial acumen with the ability to execute. They are energized by solving complex business challenges, building high-performing teams, and creating the systems, processes, and accountability needed to support sustainable growth.
The ideal candidate will bring:
- 7+ years of experience with a proven track record of growing organizations while improving profitability, operational performance, and customer satisfaction.
- Strong leadership experience developing high-performing teams and building a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Excellent financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and performance analysis.
- Experience leading operational planning, resource allocation, and business execution across multiple departments or locations.
- The ability to translate strategic vision into measurable operational results while balancing long-term growth with day-to-day execution.
- Experience implementing scalable systems, processes, KPIs, and performance metrics that support operational excellence.
- A collaborative leadership style with the confidence to challenge ideas, make difficult decisions, and work as a trusted partner to ownership.
- Experience leading change, driving organizational improvements, and navigating growth in an entrepreneurial environment.
- Experience working within the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS), particularly in an Integrator role, or within a similar operational framework, would be considered a significant asset.
This is a rare opportunity to become the operational leader of a respected Atlantic Canadian business with a significant runway for growth. If you're looking for an opportunity where you can influence strategy, lead exceptional people, own business performance, and leave a lasting legacy, this role offers the autonomy, responsibility, and opportunity to do exactly that.
