Why is this role important?
The Translator/Reviser translates and revises a wide range of documents from English to French, ensuring accuracy, idiomatic expression, and adherence to CIHI’s terminology, style, and industry standards. This role involves quality control of translations produced by internal and external translators, mentoring junior team members, and acting as a key resource for
translation-related queries. The Translator/Reviser contributes to maintaining CIHI’s high linguistic standards and supports continuous improvement of translation processes.
What you'll do
1. Translate and revise diverse texts including newsletters, press releases, corporate publications, Board documentation, technical reports, and web content with minimal supervision, ensuring idiomatic and accurate French translations delivered within deadlines.
2. Review and control the quality of French translations by internal and external translators, focusing on grammar, clarity, conciseness, accuracy, and terminology consistency. Provide coaching and feedback to less experienced translators.
3. Conduct research on French language issues and consult with translators, authors, and subject matter experts to resolve translation queries and ensure accuracy.
4. Maintain and update bilingual terminology databases and translation memory software, including glossary creation and text alignment.
5. Act as a mentor and corporate resource for translation-related questions, supporting junior team members and fostering knowledge sharing.
6. Establish and manage priorities in collaboration with the Team Lead, ensuring timelines and deliverables are met.
7. Develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients, colleagues, and external vendors.
What you'll bring to the table
- Undergraduate degree in Translation or a language-related field
- 3-5 years of combined translation and revision experience.
- Excellent knowledge of both official languages, with strong command of French syntax, usage, spelling, and terminology.
- Proven ability to work under pressure and with minimal supervision.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and translation and terminology management tools.
