Competitions & Engagement Coordinator
Location: Whitehorse based
Reports To: Executive Director, Skills Canada Yukon
Employment Type: Permanent Full-time
Travel Required: Yes – travel to schools, competitions, and events across Yukon and Canada
Compensation: $30 - $32/hr

The Opportunity
Skills Canada Yukon is looking for a highly organized, adaptable, and community-minded professional to coordinate major events, support youth programming, and help promote skilled trades and technology careers across the territory.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing logistics, communications, and relationship-building in a fast-paced environment. You’ll work closely with educators, volunteers, industry partners, competitors, and community organizations to deliver impactful programs and events that connect Yukon youth with opportunities in the skilled trades and technologies.
The Competitions & Engagement Coordinator plays a key role in planning Skills Canada Yukon’s annual Territorial Skills Competition, coordinating Team Yukon participation at the Skills Canada National Competition, supporting outreach programming, and helping strengthen public awareness of apprenticeship and skilled trades pathways.
What You’ll Do
Annual Skills Competitions
- Plan and manage overall logistics for the Territorial Skills Competition
- Coordinate and lead planning meetings both virtually and in person
- Work with volunteers and industry partners to determine logistical requirements including floorplans, event equipment, rentals, tools, and materials
- Support volunteers with creating, editing, and organizing competition documents across multiple platforms
- Coordinate preparation and distribution of pre- and post-competition materials including contest descriptions, registration packages, schedules, and competitor evaluation forms
- Coordinate travel and accommodation logistics for Territorial and National competitions
- Maintain and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders, volunteers, sponsors, and community partners
- Identify opportunities to expand programming and community engagement initiatives
Marketing & Communications
- Build and manage Skills Canada Yukon’s online presence including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and other platforms
- Create and distribute newsletters, promotional materials, and public information resources
- Maintain and update the Skills Canada Yukon website
- Develop print, digital, and radio advertisements promoting programs, events, and skilled trades careers
- Create engaging communications that highlight apprenticeship pathways and opportunities in trades and technology
- Develop creative initiatives and campaigns to increase engagement across programs and events
Outreach & Community Engagement
- Represent Skills Canada Yukon at career fairs, school visits, competitions, and community events
- Work collaboratively with Yukon schools, educators, administrators, and industry partners to increase awareness of Skills Canada Yukon programming
- Support the Program Coordinator in developing and facilitating presentations, workshops, and hands-on programming related to skilled trades and technologies
- Assist with delivering programming that promotes apprenticeship pathways and career exploration for youth
- Support organizational initiatives and special projects as needed

What You Bring
Required
- Experience in event coordination, youth programming, community engagement, administration, or related fields
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience using Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Canva, social media platforms, and communications tools
- Ability to manage multiple projects, timelines, and competing priorities
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with educators, youth, volunteers, industry, and community stakeholders
- A valid driver’s license
- Willingness and ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as required
- Standard First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check
Helpful but Not Required
- Experience with marketing, communications, or content creation
- Experience coordinating large events or competitions
- Knowledge of skilled trades, technologies, or apprenticeship pathways
- Experience working with volunteers or non-profit organizations
- Bilingualism (English/French or Indigenous languages)
