VOLUNTEER BOARD DIRECTOR
If you possess a passion for mental health, education and empowerment, and you're looking for meaningful ways to make a difference, the Schizophrenia Society of Alberta (SSA) is looking for individuals like you for volunteer board positions. As a provincial organization, candidates can reside in any community throughout the province of Alberta. Expertise in one of the following areas is an asset:
- Mental Health and Addictions
- Fund Development
- Governance Policy Board Experience
- Indigenous Community and Outreach
- First Responders/Law Enforcement
Organization
The Schizophrenia Society of Alberta is a charitable non-profit organization delivering a variety of vital programs and services to those living with schizophrenia, their family members and caregivers. Providing information and support based out of our five branches across Alberta, with access for anyone throughout the province with online programming. The Society offers education presentations to increase public awareness and understanding of schizophrenia while reducing stigma and discrimination. SSA also owns and operates 3 supportive housing programs that provide a safe and supportive home to 55 people living with serious mental illness, who otherwise may be at risk of homelessness.

Director Responsibilities
- Attend and participate in 6-8 board meetings per year, remotely or in-person when applicable
- Participate in SSA’s advocacy and fundraising efforts, including events when applicable
- Contribute to Board Committees, as needed
- Provide additional guidance to the SSA and the Executive Director in area of expertise, as needed
Qualifications
- All applications will be considered
- Professional experience in accounting or mental health roles
- Prior experience serving on a non-profit policy governance Board
