Job Title: Pipe Layer
Job Description
This role focuses on installing, repairing, and maintaining underground piping systems for water, sewer, and drainage infrastructure projects within a civil construction environment. You will work on active construction sites, performing physically demanding tasks that require precision, safety awareness, and strong teamwork.
Responsibilities

Install underground piping systems, including storm, sanitary, and water mains, in accordance with project specifications and grade requirements.

Read and interpret blueprints, site plans, and grade stakes to ensure accurate pipe layout and installation.

Align and position pipes to the required depth and grade using lasers or transit levels.

Perform trench preparation, including measuring, grading, and compacting to create a stable base for piping systems.

Connect pipe components such as PVC, concrete, HDPE, and ductile iron using appropriate installation methods.

Assist with excavation, backfilling, and compaction processes to support proper pipe installation and site restoration.

Ensure proper bedding, anchoring, and sealing of pipe systems to maintain structural integrity and prevent leaks.

Inspect pipes for defects and verify that installations meet quality and project standards.

Maintain tools and equipment in safe, clean, and reliable working condition.

Follow all safety policies, procedures, and site regulations to promote a safe work environment.

Collaborate closely with equipment operators, laborers, and foremen to complete projects efficiently and accurately.
Essential Skills

Minimum 2+ years of experience as a pipe layer in civil construction.

Hands-on experience with underground utilities, including water, sewer, and drainage systems.

Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, site plans, and survey markings.

Knowledge of trench safety, shoring, and excavation best practices.

Strong understanding of grade requirements and the ability to use lasers or transit levels for alignment.

Physical ability to perform demanding tasks, including frequent lifting of heavy materials (up to 50 lbs or more).

Reliability, strong work ethic, and the ability to work effectively as part of a construction crew.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience working on civil construction projects involving storm, sanitary, and water mains.

Familiarity with installing and connecting various pipe materials such as PVC, concrete, HDPE, and ductile iron.

Valid driver’s license (preferred) to support travel to different job sites.

Work Environment
This position operates in an outdoor construction environment in various weather conditions. Standard work hours follow a weekday schedule, typically Monday through Friday for a minimum of 8 hours per day, with a common shift running from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. You may be required to work overtime, weekends, and early morning starts based on project needs. The role involves frequent lifting of heavy materials (up to 50 lbs or more), working in and around trenches and excavation areas, and collaborating closely with field crews and equipment operators on active job sites.
