Tam-Crete Engineering is hiring an entry-level Structural Field Inspector Assistant to support residential construction site reviews and field documentation.
Location: Calgary and surrounding areas
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Attend scheduled residential construction sites.
- Take clear photographs, measurements, videos, and factual site notes.
- Complete company checklists and prepare draft field records.
- Document visible site conditions and apparent differences from the provided drawings.
- Report observations and concerns to the supervising Professional Engineer.
- Organize site photographs and project documentation.
- Communicate professionally with contractors, builders, homeowners, and the engineering team.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Engineering, engineering technology, architectural technology, or construction background preferred.
- New graduates and entry-level applicants are welcome.
- Basic knowledge of residential construction is an asset.
- Ability to read construction drawings is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and communication skills.
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence.
- Acceptable driver's abstract.
- Reliable access to a properly insured vehicle.
- Ability to travel throughout Calgary and surrounding areas.
- Availability during regular construction hours.
SOFTWARE SKILLS:
- Microsoft Word, Google Sheets, email, PDF review and markup, Google Drive, digital file management, and basic mobile reporting applications
Training Provided:
- Checklists, reporting templates, inspection procedures, and technical direction will be provided.
SUPERVISION AND ROLE LIMITATIONS
- This is a supervised technical-support role.
- All field activities are assigned and performed under the direct supervision and control of an APEGA-licensed Professional Engineer, who makes all engineering decisions and accepts professional responsibility for the work.
The employee will not independently:
- Approve or reject construction work or determine compliance.
- Provide engineering opinions, instructions, or prescribed repairs.
- Authorize design changes or issue engineering letters or reports.
All field records and observations must be submitted to the supervising Professional Engineer for review.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Employment and continued assignment to field duties are conditional upon maintaining a valid Class 5 driver's licence, acceptable driving eligibility, reliable transportation, and compliance with company safety procedures, confidentiality requirements, professional boundaries, inspection procedures, and supervisory instructions.
Failure to follow safety requirements, acting outside the authorized scope of the position, providing unauthorized engineering opinions, falsifying field records, or breaching confidentiality may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination, in accordance with the employment agreement and applicable Alberta law.
The successful candidate must sign a written employment agreement before beginning work.
