We are searching for full-time, seasonal Laboratory Technicians to join our growing team in the historic mining Town of Buchans, Newfoundland and Labrador. Barite Mud Services Inc. This position operates on a 10 days on, 4 days off schedule with the potential of alternating days and nights depending on the operational requirement.
The laboratory technician will support mill operations by performing assays to aid in the production of daily reports or to troubleshoot plant issues.
Responsibilities Summary:
Reporting to the Site Manager and working with the Process Flotation Operator your responsibilities will typically include:
· Operating and maintaining laboratory equipment (such as AA spectrometer, particle size analyzer, fusion machine, riffle splitter, scale, constant density bath, etc.).
· Sample preparation including pulverizing, dry and wet screening, specific gravity tests, hot plate digestion, fusion and atomic absorption
· Taking process stream samples at times.
· Conducting physical and chemical analyses.
· Mixing standards, acids and cleaning agents at the required solution strength.
· Maintain good hand over notes for other crews and ensuring the lab is ready and well stocked for the oncoming shift.
· Keep track of laboratory inventory, notifying supervisor when supplies are required.
· Work with laboratory compressed gas cylinders (Acetylene, compressed air, nitrous oxide)
· Maintaining log sheets.
· Recording data on a computer.
· Adhering to BMSI’s health and safety procedures and directives and participating positively in efforts to ensure the health and safety of all employees.
· Maintaining housekeeping and water distillation and data collection/entry
· Participate in training with regards to new equipment or methodology as the scope of assays is broadened
· Maintaining safe work practices.
· Maintain a clean lab at all times.
Qualifications:
· High School Education or GED Equivalent.
· Familiarity and comfort with the use of computers and software.
· Training or a background in chemistry will be considered an asset.
· Experience in the mining industry will be considered an asset.
· Previous lab experience will be considered an asset.
· Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
· Valid driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract.
· Experience in mill operations or in the mining industry is considered an asset.
· A team player that works well with others.
All BMSI employees must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test. Further, upon joining BMSI, you will be subject to testing in accordance with our Alcohol and Drug Policy.
