Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Livestock Health Technician to join our team. The Livestock Health Technician plays a key role in maintaining the health, welfare, and performance of cattle within our feedlot operation. Working closely with management and veterinarians, this position focuses on disease recognition, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and accurate health record management. Also responsible to conduct daily health assessments, identify and treat sick or injured cattle, monitor treatment outcomes, and assist with disease investigations. When required, the Livestock Health Technician will perform or assist with post-mortem examinations to help determine causes of illness or death and contribute to continuous improvement of cattle health programs. This position also supports cattle processing, movement, inventory management, and general feedlot operations.
Major Responsibilities
· Conduct daily pen checks to assess cattle health, condition, behavior, mobility, and overall performance.
· Identify, pull, sort and evaluate sick, injured or non-performing cattle.
· Diagnose common health conditions and administer treatments, vaccinations, and medications according to established veterinary protocols.
· Monitor treatment response and recommend follow-up actions when appropriate.
· Perform or assist with post-mortem examinations to help determine causes of illness or death and communicate findings to management and veterinarians.
· Collect diagnostic samples as required under veterinary direction.
· Work closely with veterinarians and management to implement cattle health programs and disease prevention strategies.
· Accurately record treatments, diagnoses, post-mortem findings, inventories, and production information using computerized livestock management systems.
· Maintain accurate cattle inventories within sick and recovery pens.
· Communicate health concerns, disease trends, and treatment outcomes to supervisors.
· Assist with animal processing, receiving, sorting, shipping, and cattle movement.
· Ensure proper and humane livestock handling practices using low-stress stockmanship principles.
· Operate ATVs, loaders, and other farm equipment safely and efficiently.
· Maintain treatment facilities, barns, equipment, and work areas in a clean and organized manner.
· Monitor water systems, pens, and facilities, reporting maintenance concerns promptly.
· Assist with general feedlot and farm maintenance including fencing, equipment cleaning, pasture cattle movement, and silage management.
· Follow all animal welfare, biosecurity, workplace safety and company policies and procedures.
Experience / Skills Required
· Extensive experience working with cattle, preferably in a commercial feedlot or large livestock operation.
· Strong knowledge of cattle behavior, animal health, common feedlot diseases, treatment protocols, and preventative livestock health practices.
· Experience identifying, diagnosing, and treating sick cattle.
· Comfortable performing or assisting with post-mortem examinations.
· Ability to recognize disease trends and communicate observations effectively.
· Comfortable learning and using computerized livestock management software and electronic record-keeping systems.
· Ability to understand, implement, and contribute to veterinary health protocols and treatment programs.
· Strong attention to details and excellent record-keeping skills.
· Calm, confident and patient while handling livestock.
· Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
· Ability to work independently while making sound decisions.
· Strong work ethic with a commitment to animal welfare and continuous improvement.
· Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
· Veterinary Technologist (RVT/AHT) diploma or equivalent livestock health training is considered an asset.
· Experience working with commercial feedlot health programs.
· Experience using computerized feedlot management software is considered an asset.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
· Capable of working in dusty, muddy, or uneven terrain.
· Ability to walk long distances throughout the feedlot.
· Ability to ride an ATV, walk, or stand for extended periods.
· Physically capable of lifting up to 50lbs and performing physically demanding tasks.
Working Conditions
· Early mornings, weekends, and holiday shifts may be required.
· Exposure to livestock, veterinary procedures, equipment, and typical feedlot environmental conditions.
· Fast-paced physically demanding work environment.

Pay: $5,000.00-$5,500.00 per month
