Two 6-Month Contract Positions
Location: St. Thomas, Ontario area — 100% onsite
Contract term: Six months, anticipated January–June 2027
Schedule: Full-time, primarily Monday–Friday. Planned evening, overnight, weekend, or holiday change windows may be required.
Reports to: Project Manager and Remote CCIE Network Lead
Position Summary
We are hiring two hands-on Network Deployment Technicians to support a large enterprise network infrastructure deployment at an industrial site in Southwestern Ontario.
The remote CCIE Network Lead will own the network design, configuration standards, and production configuration files. The onsite technicians will be responsible for physically deploying the equipment, loading approved configurations, completing validation tests, troubleshooting onsite issues, and maintaining accurate installation documentation.
This is an onsite implementation role. It is not a remote network-design or help-desk position.
Responsibilities
- Receive, inventory, unpack, inspect, assemble, and label client-supplied network equipment.
- Install and verify power supplies, supervisor modules, interface modules, SFP/SFP+ optics, stack cables, console connections, and other accessories.
- Establish and test out-of-band management connectivity for network equipment.
- Connect to equipment through console or management interfaces and load approved software images and configuration files.
- Execute implementation procedures and method-of-procedure documents prepared by the CCIE lead.
- Make only approved field changes and immediately escalate any discrepancy between the design, configuration package, port schedule, and actual site conditions.
- Perform Layer 1 and Layer 2 troubleshooting, along with basic Layer 3 connectivity validation.
- Verify interface status, VLAN assignments, trunking, spanning tree, link aggregation, PoE operation, IP addressing, and management connectivity.
- Perform ping, traceroute, interface, error-counter, and basic protocol checks using Cisco CLI commands.
- Support wireless access-point installation, connectivity testing, SSID validation, and basic throughput or speed testing.
- Assist with planned connectivity, redundancy, and failover testing for switches, switch stacks, wireless infrastructure, firewalls, and related network services.
- Identify and isolate cabling, optic, transceiver, port, power, hardware, and configuration-loading issues.
- Work closely with the remote CCIE to troubleshoot and resolve deployment problems.
- Maintain accurate records of serial numbers, asset tags, hostnames, IP addresses, rack locations, port assignments, patching, installed optics, test results, and outstanding deficiencies.
- Update deployment trackers, change records, test reports, as-built information, and client documentation systems.
- Participate in status meetings and provide clear updates on completed work, blockers, risks, and required escalations.
- Support final acceptance testing, remediation, documentation, and project handover.
- Follow all client change-control, security, confidentiality, safety, and site-access requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Current Cisco CCNA certification, or equivalent demonstrable enterprise networking knowledge and hands-on deployment experience.
- At least two years of experience deploying or supporting enterprise switching and wireless infrastructure.
- Practical experience with Cisco Catalyst switches, Cisco IOS or IOS-XE, console access, configuration files, and common verification commands.
- Experience physically installing rack-mounted network equipment in data rooms, IDFs, MDFs, data centres, or industrial facilities.
- Good understanding of:
- Ethernet and fibre-optic connectivity
- SFP and SFP+ transceivers
- VLANs and 802.1Q trunking
- Spanning Tree Protocol
- EtherChannel or LACP
- Power over Ethernet
- DHCP, DNS, NTP, and RADIUS fundamentals
- Wireless controllers, access points, and SSIDs
- Ability to read network diagrams, rack elevations, port schedules, cable schedules, configuration templates, and implementation procedures.
- Strong Layer 1 and Layer 2 troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to follow approved procedures precisely without making unauthorized design or configuration changes.
- Strong written documentation and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work effectively with remote senior engineers and onsite project personnel.
- Ability to work full-time onsite for the entire contract.
- Availability for scheduled after-hours and weekend cutovers.
- Legally authorized to work in Canada.
- Reliable transportation to the St. Thomas-area project site.
- Ability to satisfy client security, onboarding, and site-access requirements.
- Comfortable working in an active construction or industrial environment while wearing required personal protective equipment.
- Physically able to safely handle, install, and cable rack-mounted network equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with enterprise greenfield network deployments or large-scale hardware refresh projects.
- Experience working in manufacturing, industrial, construction, or high-security environments.
- Experience deploying Cisco wireless controllers and access points.
- Familiarity with Check Point firewalls, Infoblox, RADIUS, NTP, or out-of-band management systems.
- Experience testing switch-stack, chassis, uplink, power-supply, or firewall redundancy.
- Experience documenting installations using Microsoft Visio, asset-management systems, CMDB platforms, or network documentation tools.
- Fibre handling, inspection, cleaning, and troubleshooting experience.
- WHMIS, Working at Heights, elevated-work-platform, first-aid, or other relevant site-safety training.
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate is methodical, dependable, and comfortable doing hands-on deployment work for the full contract. You can follow a configuration package and implementation procedure exactly, recognize when the physical installation does not match the design, and know when to stop and escalate instead of improvising.
You take ownership of installation quality, cable management, labelling, testing, and documentation.
Application Requirements
Please submit:
- Your current résumé.
- Your CCNA certification status and certification number, where applicable.
- Your availability for the anticipated contract period.
- Your requested hourly contract rate.
- A brief description of one or two similar enterprise network deployment projects.
- Confirmation that you can work full-time onsite in the St. Thomas area and participate in scheduled after-hours change windows.
