Material Handling Technician

Introduction
We are currently seeking a temporary Material Handling Technician to support operations at an industrial facility located at the St. Clair River Site. Reporting to the Finishing Area Supervisor, this role is focused on the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of material handling, warehouse, rail yard, and production support activities. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining operational flow, inventory accuracy, and safety standards across multiple functional areas.
Responsibilities
Packaging & Material Handling
· Build and prepare boxes, package product, and stage materials in the warehouse
· Operate forklifts, including conducting daily pre-operational checks
· Unload transport trailers and move product additives safely
· Stage additives and materials to meet production requirements
· Complete SAP transactions to ensure accurate inventory tracking
· Monitor inventory levels and provide feedback to maintain supply continuity
Warehouse Operations
· Load and unload vans and containers
· Receive and inspect incoming materials, including reviewing Certificates of Analysis in line with ISO requirements
· Perform sampling of materials as required (boxes, railcars, etc.)
· Maintain accurate inventory levels through adjustments and SAP transactions
· Requisition materials from external suppliers
· Maintain accurate electronic records and logs
· Provide coverage and relief for packaging technicians as required
Rail Yard Operations
· Participate in daily shift start meetings
· Inspect inbound and outbound rail cars
· Manage on-site rail car movement and ensure proper organization of the rail yard
· Perform minor rail car maintenance (e.g., caps, gaskets, hatches)
· Identify maintenance issues and initiate repair notifications
· Collect resin samples from rail cars as required
· Assist with preloading inspections, loading, sealing, and cleaning of hopper cars
· Operate locomotive equipment for rail movements
Polymer Area Support
· Change and clean filter screens, including operation of burn-out ovens
· Monitor and maintain pump oil levels
· Empty solution adsorbers
· Transport materials between pilot plant and warehouse using a forklift
· Handle and dispose of process materials safely
Requirements
· High School Diploma or equivalent required
· Forklift operating experience considered an asset
· Post-secondary education is an asset
· Proficiency with SAP and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
· Strong written and verbal communication skills
· Demonstrated commitment to safety and Responsible Care® principles
· Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment
· Willingness to participate in shift-based operations and daily shift start meetings
