Job Description
Reporting to the Hotel Manager, you lead and support the hotel teams in ensuring a culture of safety and security for all stakeholders. Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

Manage all aspects of the hotel’s Health, Safety & Security operations, ensuring a safe and secure environment for guests, colleagues, contractors and visitors.

Champion safe work practices, creation, implementation and continuous enhancement of employee safe-working procedures, awareness and accident prevention programs.

Develop and monitor systems, train and educate employees on reporting hazards and workplace processes to minimize injuries in the workplace.
-
Manage all hotel emergency systems including key control system, security monitoring system, CCTV and fire panel systems.
-
Lead the hotel’s Fire & Life Safety Program, ensuring compliance with all applicable legislations, fire codes and corporate standards.
-
Ongoing development and delivery of security, workplace health and safety and WATCH (“We Act Together For Children”) Orientation Programs for all colleagues and leaders, including safe work practices, employee security procedures, awareness programs and accident prevention.
-
Thorough and timely investigation, reporting and follow up of internal and external security and health related accidents, incidents or reports. Conduct frequent audits of departments and provides expert recommendations. Conducts follow-up with departments, leaders and employees as required to ensure ongoing culture of safety, security, awareness and prevention.

Work with external groups and/or security agencies on security measures for special events, groups or VIPs.

Liaise with local law enforcement, and community peers on security-related matters. Acts as first contact for emergency agencies.

Lead and develop strategies, communication, training and coaching of all employees for emergency systems, fire response and evacuation procedures and protocols.
-
Coordinate emergency drills and security training for all departments.
-
Manage business continuity and crisis management programs including training, record keeping, and updates to documentation.
-
Ensure compliance with all corporate loss prevention, health & safety and security guidelines and procedures.
-
Chair of the Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee. Conduct monthly meeting, reporting and training for awareness. Lead and train committee members and department managers in the development and execution of strategies to improve the overall health and wellness of our hotel community.

Ensure hotel meets all conditions of Go2HR Certificate of Recognition (COR) Audit. Work as liaison with WorkSafeBC and Go2HR and participate in audit annually.

Maintain thorough knowledge of WorkSafeBC worksite requirements and ensure compliance at all times.

Work closely with the Engineering & IT Departments on special projects related to health, safety and security.

Manage the Lost & Found function with the support of the Front Office Team.

Periodically conduct employee baggage and locker inspections, as required.
-
Manage and conduct regular security patrols to ensure adequate presence in all parts of the property.

Respond to all emergency situations and provide First Aid and CPR as required.
-
Manage Occupational First Aid training and records for applicable employees.
-
Ensure First Aid kits and equipment are maintained and stocked in a timely manner.
-
Manage security video systems including access, storage and training according to hotel protocols.
-
Be aware of security trends in the city of Vancouver, specifically in the hotel environment and take proactive actions to prevent loss on property.

Identify opportunities to enhance security through emerging technologies, automation and data analytics.

Other work-related duties as assigned
Qualifications
-
Minimum 2 years of leadership experience in the health, safety & security or loss prevention field (hotel or similar environment preferred).

Valid BC Security Worker License, Basic Security Training (BST) and Occupational First Aid Level II (CPR & AED certified) required.
-
Advanced Security Training designation and COR Certification preferred.
-
Demonstrated ability to manage high-profile security situations with discretion and professionalism.
-
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a strong ability to produce concise reports.
-
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, knowledge of CCTV, access control and security systems.
-
Ability to work cohesively with fellow colleagues as part of a team as well as independently.
-
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to develop trusting relationships and foster cooperation.
-
Ability to focus attention on guest experience, remain calm and courteous at all times.
-
Reliable, responsible and adaptable, able to work a variety of shifts, including weekends, holidays and overnight.
