Approaches and strategies for developing an understanding of the principles and methods underlying the teaching of science and technology in the Primary and Junior Divisions. Course content focuses on curricula and pedagogies that develop critical skills, promotes understanding of the relevance of science, and explores science and technology concepts as they relate to science, technology, engineering and mathematic (STEM) education, with a goal of developing scientific and technological literacy. Emphasis is placed on curriculum and pedagogies that link science and technology to society and the environment (STSE), and effectively incorporate equity, diversity, inclusivity, and decolonization (EDID). The Faculty of Education invites applications for a Limited Duties Instructor to teach Curriculum and Pedagogy in Elementary Science & Technology – PJI. The instructor will support teacher candidates in developing curriculum knowledge, instructional practices, and assessment strategies that are developmentally appropriate, inclusive, and aligned with Ontario’s current policies. The course prepares candidates to foster student curiosity, support inquiry and design processes, and integrate Indigenous perspectives, environmental education, and ethical considerations into STEM instruction.
- Prepare and deliver course content aligned with the Ontario Curriculum: Science and Technology, Grades 1–8 (2022).
- Engage teacher candidates in inquiry-based, experiential, and design-thinking approaches to teaching STEM.
- Introduce strategies for integrating equity, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization (EDID) in elementary science education.
- Support teacher candidates in designing assessments aligned with Growing Success and the Kindergarten Addendum.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback and evaluate student learning in relation to course outcomes.
- Collaborate with the Teacher Education Office or course coordinator to ensure alignment with the B.Ed. program.
