The London Cross Cultural Learner Centre ('CCLC') is a London, Ontario–based non-profit organization that provides settlement services for newcomers to Canada. We are currently seeking two (2) full-time, fixed-term contract Language Assessors to join our team at our Windsor location, with contracts running until March 31, 2027.
The Language Assessment and Referral Services (LARS) program provides assessments to newcomer clients to determine their English language proficiency in accordance with the Canadian Language Benchmarks. The program also supports clients by referring them to appropriate Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) or English as a Second Language (ESL) programs based on their individual needs and goals.
Reporting to the Manager, Language Assessment & Referrals, the Language Assessor conducts language assessments using approved tools, determines language levels, and facilitates referrals to appropriate language training programs for eligible newcomers.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct language assessments using the Canadian Language Benchmarks Placement Assessment (CLBPA) and other approved tools to determine clients’ English proficiency
- Assess eligibility for federally and provincially funded language training programs
- Identify client needs and provide recommendations for appropriate training and support services
- Refer clients to language programs and community resources as appropriate
- Complete client intake processes and maintain accurate client records and assessment data using internal systems
- Support clients transferring within and outside Ontario, ensuring proper documentation and file setup
- Assist walk-in clients with information and access to language training services
- Maintain program statistics and prepare required reports
- Participate in team meetings, training, and professional development activities
- Perform administrative and operational tasks as needed
- Ensure confidentiality and adherence to organizational policies and protocols
Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Bachelor’s degree in adult education, education, or a related field
- TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) Diploma and Accreditation is required
Experience
- Up to one year of experience in language assessment, ESL instruction, and/or adult education
Skills & Competencies
- Knowledge of adult education principles and language assessment practices
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Demonstrated commitment to anti-oppressive practices and trauma- and violence-informed care
- Strong organizational and time management skills in an appointment-based environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and database systems
- Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare basic reports
Additional Requirements
- A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle are required to travel between locations
