Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated accounting professional to support a dynamic operational accounting function in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial operating environment. This role will report to the Assistant Controller, Operational Accounting and play a key role in transactional accounting, financial reporting, and process improvement initiatives.
The ideal candidate is analytical, proactive, and collaborative, with a strong foundation in accounting and an interest in improving processes, systems, and reporting. This role offers exposure to cross-functional teams and opportunities to contribute to operational insights and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting
- Perform transactional accounting for commodity purchases and sales
- Prepare and maintain accruals, prepaid expenses, and inventory-related entries
- Monitor account balances and investigate anomalies or unusual transactions
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of accounting records in accordance with company policies and accounting standards
- Support audit, regulatory filings, and other required information submissions
Reporting
- Assist in the preparation of monthly and annual financial reporting
- Analyze results, including identification of variances and operational insights
- Support development and improvement of reports and processes
- Analyze data to form insights and support decision-making
Systems
- Utilize eONE and Sage accounting systems to support accurate operational accounting and reporting
- Maintain data integrity and support system controls
- Partner with business and technology teams to improve workflows and reporting capabilities
- Identify and support process improvements, automation opportunities, and operational efficiencies
Cross-Functional
- Support alignment with commercial, operations, transportation, contracts & pricing, treasury, and AP teams
- Assist with resolution of transactional issues and discrepancies
- Provide timely communication of issues and support ad hoc initiatives
Qualifications & Skills
- CPA designation (or in progress)
- 2–6+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Experience in energy or commodities environments preferred
- Experience with ETRM systems such as eONE considered an asset
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- High level of integrity and accountability
