Benmet Steel & Metal is a leader in the Canadian scrap and recycling industry located in the heart of Guelph, ON with our second location in Stratford, ON. We are one of the most established and reputable independent scrap metal processors in Ontario. We are looking for motivated individuals to join our growing team.
The operator/material handler responsibilities range from entry level tasks to a leadership role. The incumbent will succeed in accomplishing their duties by maintaining a constant awareness of their surroundings by ensuring all activities and responsibilities associated with this position meet Benmet Steel and Metal’s operational standards. Training will be provided and growth within the company is supported and encouraged.
Essential Skills:
- Familiarity with heavy hydraulic cranes such as Leibherr.
- Minimum of one year of experience with scrap metal
- Must have a strong knowledge of ferrous metal
- Must be accustomed to repetitive movements, lifting and year round working outdoors in a safe and efficient manner.
- Work outside in a variety of weather conditions
Duties may include but are not limited to:
- Move material to allocated areas in yard
- Load and unload trucks
- Perform general housekeeping duties to keep yard clean and organized
- Perform some preventative maintenance on equipment (i.e. greasing)
- Operate two-way radios and other communication equipment
- Achieve or exceed operational targets
- Report accidents/incidents/environmental issues
- Other operating duties may be assigned
