What You’ll Do
Fort Nelson First Nation is seeking a caring and certified Early Childhood Educator to join the Deh Zona Family Centre team. If you are passionate about supporting young children in a culturally grounded and community-focused environment, we encourage you to apply.
The Early Childhood Educator (ECE) plans and delivers programs for children from infancy to age 5, supporting their cognitive, physical, social-emotional, and cultural development.
The ECE will:
- Create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment
- Plan and lead age-appropriate activities that promote healthy development
- Support positive behaviour using developmentally appropriate guidance techniques
- Observe and document children’s development and daily activities
- Encourage cultural learning and community values
- Engage families in programs and Centre events
- Maintain professional, respectful relationships with children, families, and colleagues
- Ensure confidentiality of all child and family information
- Maintain a clean and organized classroom
- Perform other related duties as required.
Valued Qualifications
Experience & Knowledge:
- Valid BC Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Certificate
- Current First Aid & CPR
- Cultural awareness and understanding of intergenerational trauma and a willingness to participate in community learning and events
- Knowledge of land-based learning
Skills & Abilities:
- Maintains professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality
- Communicates clearly and respectfully
- Builds positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues
- Organized and able to prioritize in a busy environment
- Adaptable and responsive to changing needs
- Basic computer skills (email and standard programs)
Other (required):
Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and Drivers Abstract, and reliable transportation.
Optional (Assets):
- Ability to speak Dene and/or Cree.
- Other certificates such as: WHMIS, Food Safe.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities.
Work Setting
Regular hours are Monday to Friday, between 7:45 a.m. and 4:45 p.m.
Employees may be required to attend up to two evening staff meetings per month.
This is an active childcare role that involves working directly with young children, including lifting up to 50 lbs. Safe footwear is required.
