This position is responsible to maintain preventative policing within the Town of Grand Falls-Windsor, including, but not limited to, providing police supervision, security, and traffic control at fires, funerals, parades, public gatherings, motor vehicle collisions, other emergencies, and attend various municipal special events as required. This position will also assist in the maintaining of municipal by-laws by issuing warnings, Summary Offence tickets, Regulation Notices, Violation Notices, and executing Orders of Council, as well as carry out patrols within the Town of Grand Falls-Windsor making direct inspection of municipal, commercial, and private premises.
DUTIES
- Respond to complaints, and to patrol the Town of Grand Falls-Windsor as per work schedule
- Ensure Animal Control Regulations are enforced, and other aspects of animal control
- Prosecutes traffic tickets in Provincial court
- Identifies violations of provincial and federal statutes. Reports to RCMP and co-operates as required
- Investigates and prepares incident reports and appears as court witness when required
- Designs and delivers educational and public relations programs
- Processes registration of taxis and maintains a mechanical inspection program
- Serves notice to individuals and businesses on behalf of council for failure to pay taxes, property standards and violations of municipal by-laws
- Other related duties as assigned by supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduation from a Police Academy with a diploma in Police Science
- Combination of training and experience in law enforcement, court procedures, application of by-laws and conducting investigations
- Successful completion of course in Animal Care and Control would be an asset
- Able to provide a Clear Code of Conduct
- Class 5 drivers license as issued by the Province
A combination of relevant experience and other education may be considered for an exceptional candidate who does not possess all of the required qualifications.
SALARY
As per CUPE Local 1349 Collective Agreement (Job Class 4).
