Overview
The Overhead Crane Operator is responsible for the safe operation of the crane to lift, position and place steel coils and other large objects. The Overhead Crane Operator must check incoming shipments, unload trucks, place material into storage ensuring the heavier coils are on the bottom. Ensure proper materials are delivered to the processing lines in a timely manner. This position reports to the Plant Manager.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Navigate or depress crane controls to regulate speed and direction of the crane and hoist;
- Inspect the crane for defective parts daily and notify the supervisor of the defects or malfunctions;
- Check incoming load tally with material lift tickets;
- Visually inspect for common coil/lift characteristics;
- Record measurements, location, sign and date the load tally and deliver to the Office Receiver;
- Attach inventory tags to coils (match Mill Tags) and lifts (match Mill Tags);
- Mark inventory tag number on the side wall of coils and the top of the sheet on the lifts;
- Attach hold tags to returned materials and pass the paperwork on to the Quality Manager;
- Place coils/lifts in designated staging areas;
- Maintain an accurate record of received quantities including the type and condition of materials on the bills of lading;
- Inform the Office Receiver of suspected non-conformance in received materials;
- Completion of hold tags on returned materials;
- Accurate and timely identification and storage of new materials;
- Always follow ISO policy and quality procedures;
- Accurate and timely delivery of coils to processing lines; and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 year of experience as a crane operator using a c-hook, chains/slings and sheet lifter;
- Minimum 1 – 3 years of experience in the steel industry;
- Good knowledge of safety procedures;
- Good communication skills both oral and written;
- Excellent time management and interpersonal skills.
Working Conditions:
- Prolonged periods of standing;
- Exposed to noise and may be exposed to small fluctuating temperatures.

Pay: $23.50-$26.50 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40.0 per week

Experience:
