Your Opportunity With PDC:
We are currently seeking a motivated and safety-conscious Machinist Apprentice to join our team. The Machinist Apprentice is responsible for learning and assisting with the production of quality parts using CNC machining equipment under the guidance of Journeyperson Machinists. Responsibilities will include supporting setup, machine operation, inspection, and general shop practices while progressively developing technical and safety skills in accordance with the provincial apprenticeship program. This position is safety sensitive and includes the operation of lifting devices and exposure to machining hazards.
This position is open to 3rd year or higher apprentices; however, individuals in earlier stages may be considered if they demonstrate strong potential or prior experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture by following company policies and identifying/reporting unsafe conditions.
- Assist with the setup and operation of CNC machines including loading parts, basic adjustments, and cleanup.
- Support in reading blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to learn how to interpret dimensions and tolerances.
- Learn to use precision measuring instruments to inspect and verify components.
- Assist with routine maintenance, cleaning, and upkeep of machines and work area.
- Shadow experienced machinists to gain hands-on experience with programming, tooling, and problem-solving.
- Participate in internal training, toolbox meetings, and safety discussions.
- Complete all required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
- Use lifting devices safely under supervision.
- Other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications:
- Registered as a Machinist Apprentice (3rd or 4th year).
- Mechanical aptitude and interest in machining and manufacturing.
- Ability to follow instructions and ask questions when clarification is needed.
- Familiarity with tools and safety equipment in a shop environment is an asset.
- Basic understanding of measurement tools and ability to learn technical concepts.
- Positive attitude, willingness to learn, and strong work ethic.
- Must be adaptable to changing tasks and work priorities.
