The Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC) Addictions & Mental health Program is a group of dynamic multidisciplinary teams that work together to ensure our patients have the best standard of care & experience. Our site runs six Addictions & Mental Health Programs; Two General Psychiatry Inpatient Units/Day Hospital Program/Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES)/Consultation Liaison, & the Short Stay Unit (SSU). PES is a 24hrs service operating out of the PLC Emergency Department (ED) that focuses on the assessment & treatment of patients presenting to the ED in a psychiatric or psychosocial crisis. With a dedicated area within the PLC ED, PES provides both direct bedside nursing care for patients awaiting inpatient beds & treatment in the ED & referral recommendations for patients presenting to the ED. As an RN/RPN in PES, you will work within an interprofessional team that specializes in the delivery of quality acute psychiatric care to patients presenting in crisis. Using Trauma Informed Care, the recovery model, & an understanding of the DSM V-TR, you will support patients in understanding their mental health & developing strategies to manage their mental health. You will provide direct bedside care to patients awaiting an inpatient bed or assessment by PES &/or ED. You will engage in basic head to toe assessments & IV therapy when indicated. As a consulting PES Nurse, you will conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments to determine level of illness & risk & make recommendations to Emergency Physicians & Psychiatrists regarding the plan of care. You will collaborate with services & organize referrals to community services or admission to inpatient units based on client need. You will assess & develop, in collaboration with the patient, an effective plan/identify appropriate services for clients/arrange care.
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of Recovery Alberta. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 - $55.79 per hour. Upon being entered into the register as a Registered Nurse, the rate of pay will be adjusted in accordance with the UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum of 2 years of continuous Addictions & Mental Health experience within the last 3 years with an FTE. New grads who have completed a final preceptorship in PES will be considered. Experience working in community crisis support will also be considered. Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced, high intensity environment under pressure and handle competing priorities Demonstrated accountability for own professional practice Demonstrated problem solving, critical thinking & decision-making skills. Knowledge of Mental Health Act & Adult Guardianship & Trusteeship Act. Knowledge of verbal de-escalation techniques. Knowledge of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral (DBT), and/or Motivational Interviewing (MI) Knowledge of the Addiction & Mental Health related resources across the Calgary Zone. Demonstrated organizational & clinical skills in addition to being self-directed & able to work collaboratively in a team environment required. Working Knowledge of Psychotropic medications required. Experience in administering the Mental Status examination. Experience in various risk assessment i.e. Suicide risk, Homicidal risk, violent risk. Knowledge of the addiction & mental health continuum of care. Ability to lift, push & pull less than 50lbs (ie stretcher's, restraints) Successful candidates are required to complete a minimum 4-week orientation.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Dragon Medical One Dictation an asset. Certification in NVCI an asset Certification in CBT, DBT, and/or MI an asset Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) CPMHN(C) certification an asset Master's of Nursing (MN) an asset.
