We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director of Safety for a Trucking and Transportation client in the Brampton area.
As a Director of Safety, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing safety programs to ensure regulatory compliance, reduce risk, and promote a strong company-wide safety culture.
This role oversees all aspects of transportation safety, driver compliance, and operational risk management while ensuring adherence to federal, provincial/state, and industry regulations.
This is a Permanent direct hire position with the Company
MUST HAVE EXPERIENCE AS A SAFETY DIRECTOR FROM A TRANSPORTATION COMPANY
Shift: 9am - 5pm - Monday to Friday
Salary: $120,000 to $130,000 annually
Benefits are paid at 80% coverage
2-3 weeks of vacation

The Director of Safety in trucking is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing safety policies and programs to ensure regulatory compliance and promote a safe work environment. Key duties include conducting safety audits, investigating accidents, providing training, overseeing drug and alcohol testing, and ensuring all vehicles and drivers meet DOT and other regulatory standards.
Key responsibilities
- Policy and procedure development: Create and execute safety policies that meet all federal, state, and local regulations, including those from the DOT and FMCSA.
- Compliance and audits: Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance and identify potential hazards. Maintain records and respond to regulatory agency inquiries as we are self-insured.
- Accident and incident management: Lead investigations into accidents and incidents to determine root causes, develop corrective action plans, and prevent future occurrences.
- Training and education: Develop and provide comprehensive safety training programs for drivers, employees, and contractors.
- Risk management: Oversee the company's drug and alcohol testing program and conduct risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
- Data analysis: Track and analyze safety statistics to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Collaboration: Work with other departments (operations, HR, maintenance) and external partners (customers, regulatory agencies) to ensure safety goals are met.
- Recordkeeping: Ensure all necessary safety records are maintained, including accident files, training documents, and inspection reports.
- MUST be experienced with handling Insurance and claims, and audits.
Required skills and qualifications
- Strong knowledge of transportation safety regulations (e.g., DOT, FMCSA, OSHA).
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to analyze data and create detailed reports.
- Experience in accident investigation and root cause analysis.
- Strong understanding of vehicle maintenance and inspections.
- Ability to implement and foster a company-wide safety culture.
