NORAM Engineering & Constructors Ltd. is seeking a Junior or an Intermediate Mechanical Designer / Drafting Technologists to join our multidisciplinary project teams in Vancouver, BC. This is an opportunity to work on innovative, real-world projects across a broad range of industries.
NORAM operates multiple departments working on projects in the fine chemical, electrochemical, lithium, sulfuric acid, and pulp and paper industries. We are constantly developing our own technology and assisting clients to develop theirs. Our work takes us around the world solving complex engineering problems in many different countries and environments.
These roles support the design and execution of industrial chemical process plants, including new facility design, retrofits/de-bottlenecking of existing operations, and pilot plants. A successful candidate will be comfortable working with a team and independently to contribute to detailed mechanical design, 3D modeling, production of drawings and other related project deliverables.
Role Overview
You will be involved in the development of complete plant/pilot plant layouts and mechanical systems for chemical processing facilities worldwide. Work includes drafting and design of:
- Process Flow Diagrams
- Piping, and Instrumentation Diagrams
- Plant Layouts
- Pressure vessels, reactors, tanks, and heat exchangers
- Piping and ducting systems, including supports
- Skid-mounted pilot plants
Qualifications & Skills
Required:
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Certificate in CAD Drafting Technology or equivalent
- Experience in SolidWorks, CADWorx, and AutoCAD or similar
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of how equipment is fabricated and assembled
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality deliverables
- Effective communication and time management skills in a project environment
Preferred / Assets:
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, standards, and specifications
- Experience with industrial plant layout
- Familiarity with chemical, pulp & paper, mining, or process industries
- Knowledge of 3D plant modeling workflows
- Process piping design experience (pipe components, routing constraints, flexibility considerations, maintenance, and operability requirements)
- Experience with fabrication drawings for pressure vessels or structural components
- Understanding of instrumentation principles and integration
- Desire and flexibility to travel
- Class 5 drivers license and passport
