The Nova Scotia Construction Sector Council (NSCSC) has an immediate opening for a friendly and responsible Summer Camp Facilitator. Working under the direction of the Youth Engagement Lead, you and the NSCSC’s Youth Team will be hosting youth ages 12-15 for multiple weeklong Skilled Trades Summer Camps. This program is aimed at providing an interactive career awareness experience while participating in Skilled Trades workshops.
Campers will get to interact with Industry Trades Professionals during the week at the NSCSC’s Trades Exhibition Hall. All other workshops will be facilitated by the Summer Camp Facilitator and Youth Team.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
As part of NSCSC’s Youth Team, you will be responsible for:
Planning/Implementation
· The ongoing delivery of the Skilled Trades Summer Camp (geared towards ages 12-15) to learn about construction occupations through hands-on activities and workshops.
· Assisting with insuring a safe, welcoming, and positive learning environment.
· Sourcing and acquiring all necessary materials/equipment for the delivery of the camps.
· Helping to manage all aspects of the events including daily attendance, ongoing headcounts and personal protective equipment checks, completion of planned activities, and tear down/reset for the following day.
· Co-facilitating the events to ensure program outcomes are met while mediating youth.
Education/Engagement
· Facilitating fun construction related games, activities, and simulators, some activities could include a scavenger hunt, obstacle course, and construction trivia game.
· Conducting hands-on workshops by following a provided lesson plan, some activities could include wooden toolbox, copper pipe book stand, and mini brick photo frame[RP1] .
· Promote and maintain a culture of safety by ensuring all participants follow safety procedures, wear required personal protective equipment and participate in activities in a safe and responsible manner.
Communications
· Pre/Post daily check ins with Youth Team
· Clear communication during camp hours, either in person or via text
· Serving as a representative of the NSCSC team as required to promote program opportunities (i.e. Career Fairs, Open House, or other events as required)
Other
· Other duties that may be required for the efficient delivery of Sector Council services and initiatives
The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills, abilities and personal attributes:

-Strong leadership skills with emphasis on guidance and mediation
· Confidence in providing guidance, redirection and positive behaviour support when required.
-Highly versatile person who is capable of doing many different trade-related tasks.
-Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced results-oriented environment.
-Flexibility to adapt to changes in the day-to-day activities and camp schedule.
-Proactive – takes initiative and possesses excellent problem-solving skills.
-Obtains a clear criminal record check, vulnerable sector check, and valid driver’s license.
-Individuals must be able to meet physical demands as required, including (but not limited to): lifting/pushing/pulling of approximately 50 lbs., bending, standing for extended periods, and walking for extended periods.

Work Environment
Fast-paced, warehouse/office space; possible event venues outside Halifax and across the province may vary; will include physical setup and outdoor activities.
Hours of Work
Typically, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM (Monday to Friday) with the possibility of travel that will require 3-4 night overnight stay during program delivery.
Remuneration: $20 to $24/hr (based on experience and education)
