Position Title: Core Logging Geologist (Contract)
Reporting to the Exploration Manager, the Core Logging Geologist will focus on the exploration diamond drilling program at the company’s properties in northwestern British Columbia. The ideal candidate will be someone who has practical field experience with precious and base metals exploration and diamond drilling programs.
This position is seasonal in nature and the duration of the contact may be up to 5 months depending on workload and drill program needs. The position is scheduled to start in June 2024.
Position Responsibilities:
- Work with Skeena’s technical team on exploration diamond drilling programs , including but not limited to monitoring drill progress, core logging, up-to-date plotting and interpretation of drill cross sections, implementing and monitoring of relevant workflows and procedures (QA/QC etc.).
- Contribute to geological interpretation of the deposit including data compilation, integration and 3D modelling.
- Prepare daily reports on drill progress with accompanying interpretive cross section.
- Communicate with supervisors on a regular basis and report all material exploration results on a timely basis.
- Promote a safety leadership culture by ensuring that proper safety practices are followed in accordance with Skeena’s health and safety policies.
- Actively seek opportunities to recognize health and safety hazards, resolve safety issues, and work to mitigate associated risks in the workplace.
- Monitor and maintain sampling supplies inventory.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Geology or Earth Sciences.
- Registered or able to register in a GIT program with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC).
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar role with exposure to operations within the mining industry.
- Practical field experience with exploration and core logging techniques.
- The candidate should demonstrate a high level of energy, self-motivation and strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent interpersonal skills together with an ability to facilitate commitment to a cooperative team effort.
- Excellent English communication skills, both orally and written and the ability to work with all levels of the organization.
- Strong computer skills including use of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Access, PowerPoint etc.), GIS programs (QGIS or ArcGIS); experience with Leapfrog Geo and GeoSpark considered an asset.
- Adaptable to an ever changing high-demand work environment, with the ability to work in remote or challenging physical environments, including lifting and moving core boxes/sample bags and hiking in undeveloped terrain with gear.
- Ability to work a rotation schedule and live onsite in a camp environment for extended periods of time.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Valid class 5 driver’s license.
Work Location and Conditions
This is a site-based camp job near the Eskay Creek Mine site in Northwestern BC. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 22 days on/13 days off rotation including travel.
The Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities in the region. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace Airport, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena’s Travel Policy.
There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and wet conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.
