Since 1974, The Hope Centre has helped to build and strengthen Welland by supporting the most vulnerable in our community with food security, housing stability and wellness programs. We offer a wide range of services that help individuals and families in Welland that are facing challenges related to poverty including mental health, addictions, food insecurity and housing instability.
Our mission is to assist, support, empower and advocate for the most vulnerable members of our community. We do this by providing essential services including homelessness prevention, housing-focused shelter, emergency food bank, daily lunches, counselling and more. Our vision is a community where every person has their basic needs met through support and compassion.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Special Events Lead supports the coordination and success of community food drives, donation campaigns, and outreach initiatives that help provide food and essential support to individuals and families in need throughout the community.
This role plays an important part in strengthening relationships with schools, businesses, community groups, event partners and volunteers while helping ensure food drives and donation initiatives are organized, engaging, and impactful.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, community-minded, energetic, and passionate about supporting individuals and families experiencing food insecurity and homelessness.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Food Drives & Events
- Assist with planning and coordinating food drives and community events
- Support partners (schools, businesses, organizations) running drives
- Help with logistics, donations, and event set-up/tear-down
Fundraising & Donor Support
- Greet and support in-person donors
- Assist with tax receipts and donor records
- Respond to inquiries and support donor communications
Community Engagement
- Represent the organization at events and outreach activities
- Build relationships with partners, donors, and community groups
- Support awareness initiatives and presentations
Communications
- Create social media content and promotional materials
- Capture stories, photos, and impact highlights
Administrative Support
- Provide general admin support for fundraising and engagement activities
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Post-secondary student/graduate in communications, marketing, media, event management, or related field
- Experience with social media content creation, scheduling, engagement, and analytics
- Familiarity with Canva or Adobe Creative Suite (asset)
- Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills; able to work independently and collaboratively
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Vulnerable Sector Check required
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Combination of office, community, and event-based work environments.
- Occasional lifting and moving of food donations, supplies, and event materials.
- This position requires daily access to a reliable, insured vehicle, a valid driver’s licence, and the ability to travel to events primarily within the Welland community.

Pay: $45,000.00-$50,000.00 per year
