About Path to Logos
Path to Logos is an online tutoring company focused on helping students become confident, capable, and independent learners.
We do not simply give students answers, complete their homework for them, or teach them to memorize information temporarily. Our tutors help students understand how to approach problems, recognize where they are getting stuck, strengthen foundational skills, and develop learning strategies they can use without constant support.
We are building a tutoring experience that is structured, personal, encouraging, and accountable—for students, families, and tutors.
The Role
We are looking for thoughtful, reliable, and engaging tutors who can build strong relationships with students while maintaining high academic expectations.
The ideal tutor can explain difficult concepts in more than one way, identify the real reason a student is struggling, and adapt each session to the student’s learning style, confidence level, and academic needs.
This is not a role for someone who simply reviews worksheets or provides answers. Tutors are expected to actively teach, ask questions, track progress, and help students develop greater independence over time.
Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging one-on-one or small-group online tutoring sessions.
- Prepare for each session based on the student’s current goals, schoolwork, and learning plan.
- Explain concepts clearly using examples, visuals, questions, and step-by-step instruction.
- Help students understand how to solve problems rather than solving the problems for them.
- Identify gaps in foundational knowledge and address them during future sessions.
- Adapt teaching methods based on the student’s age, personality, learning style, and confidence.
- Assign targeted practice or learning activities when appropriate.
- Complete brief and accurate session notes after every lesson.
- Track student progress, challenges, completed work, and recommended next steps.
- Communicate concerns, improvements, or recurring learning difficulties to the Path to Logos team.
- Maintain professional and respectful communication with students and families.
- Attend onboarding, training, and occasional tutor development meetings.
- Follow all Path to Logos teaching standards, student-safety expectations, and confidentiality policies.
- Arrive on time and provide reasonable notice when a session must be rescheduled.
The Ideal Tutor
You may be a strong fit for this role if you:
- Genuinely enjoy working with children or teenagers.
- Are patient without lowering expectations.
- Can make students feel safe asking questions and making mistakes.
- Understand that struggling students often need confidence, structure, or a different explanation—not simply more repetition.
- Can recognize whether a student truly understands a concept.
- Ask guiding questions instead of immediately giving answers.
- Are comfortable receiving feedback and improving your teaching.
- Are dependable, organized, and responsive.
- Can communicate professionally with both students and adults.
- Want to help students eventually need less tutoring, not become dependent on it.
Qualifications
- Strong academic knowledge in at least one teachable subject or grade range.
- Current or completed post-secondary education is preferred.
- Previous tutoring, teaching, mentoring, coaching, camp, or youth-work experience is an asset.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Access to a reliable computer, internet connection, webcam, and quiet teaching environment.
- Comfort using online learning tools, digital documents, and video-conferencing platforms.
- Ability to commit to a consistent weekly schedule.
- Willingness to complete a background or vulnerable-sector screening when required.
Formal teaching credentials are not required for every tutoring position. Strong subject knowledge, communication ability, reliability, and alignment with our teaching philosophy are more important.
Subject Areas
We are interested in tutors who can support one or more of the following areas:
- Elementary literacy and mathematics
- Middle-school mathematics, science, English, and social studies
- High-school mathematics and sciences
- English, essay writing, reading comprehension, and study skills
- French
- University-level courses
- Executive-functioning, organization, and academic-skills support
Applicants should clearly identify the subjects and grade levels they are fully confident teaching.
What We Provide
- Structured onboarding and tutor training
- Clear teaching expectations and tutoring standards
- Student information and learning goals
- Session-management and progress-tracking systems
- Ongoing support from the Path to Logos team
- Opportunities for increased responsibility, raises, and performance-based bonuses
- Potential for additional students and hours as the company grows
Performance Expectations
Tutor performance will be evaluated based on:
- Reliability and attendance
- Session quality and preparation
- Student engagement
- Quality of session documentation
- Communication with the Path to Logos team
- Student progress and retention
- Parent and student feedback
- Professionalism and willingness to improve
Student grades alone will not determine tutor performance. We recognize that academic progress depends on many factors. However, tutors must demonstrate that they are prepared, actively supporting the student, following the learning plan, and responding appropriately when progress is limited.
How to Apply
Please submit:
- Your résumé
- The subjects and grade levels you can confidently teach
- Your general weekly availability
- A brief explanation of why you want to tutor with Path to Logos
- An example of how you would help a student who says, “I don’t understand,” after you have already explained the concept once
Selected applicants will complete an interview and a short teaching demonstration before being offered students.
