About Us:
Neighbours Community Homes is Toronto’s leading non-profit supportive housing agency with a 45-year track record of excellence. Neighbours offers permanent, affordable housing and social programs to support individuals challenged by complex mental illness and addiction, including those who are homeless or otherwise marginalized. We own 53 buildings with 1400 supportive housing units. We provide support services and/or rent subsidies to tenants in 250 units in the rental market. Neighbours Community Homes works closely with sector partners to deliver programs and advocate for solutions that will address homelessness and end the legacy of institutionalization.
About the role:
The Financial Analyst (FA) will be responsible for delivering accurate and timely financial analysis to support corporate accounting, construction and development, and special projects.
In addition, the FA will support financial planning and forecasting processes, perform detailed cost and variance analyses, and support monthly, quarterly and year-end close activities
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform full-cycle accounting activities including journal entries, bank reconciliations, general ledger maintenance, and account reconciliations.
- Support month-end and year-end close processes by preparing accruals, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial reporting schedules.
- Assist in preparing accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP and not-for-profit accounting standards.
- Contribute to the development of annual budgets and financial forecasts by gathering financial data, preparing reports, and analyzing variances.
- Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, investigate discrepancies, and provide actionable insights to support decision-making.
- Monitor and track financial performance across projects, cost centers, and development initiatives, ensuring accurate allocation of costs.
- Support financial reporting requirements for management, the Board of Directors, and external stakeholders, including funders and regulatory bodies.
- Prepare documentation and schedules to support external audits and respond to auditor inquiries.
- Assist with regulatory filings and remittances such as HST/GST and other financial compliance requirements.
- Collaborate with internal teams including operations, property management, payroll, and procurement to ensure financial accuracy and alignment.
- Provide backup support for accounts payable and accounts receivable processes when required.
- Participate in financial system improvements, process enhancements, and special projects to strengthen financial reporting and operational efficiency.
What we are looking for:
- University Degree in Accounting/Business or equivalent work experience with a professional accounting designation.
- Minimum five years of progressive experience in accounting and/or financial analysis, preferably in a not-for-profit, construction/development, and/or real estate environment.
- Must have a strong understanding of GAAP and internal controls.
As a condition of employment, a successful police record check for Vulnerable Sector is required. Candidates must be legally entitled to work in the country where this role is located.
