Job Brief
We are seeking a Maintenance Mechanic responsible for the overseeing and performing maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of the production equipment and facilities. Ideal candidate will be able to coordinate regular maintenance activities and ensure work is completed safely.
Responsibilities
- Trouble shoot and maintain production equipment which includes electrical, hydraulic, mechanic and pneumatic systems, MAF fruit sorting equipment.
- Repair and replace hydraulic, mechanical, electrical and pneumatic components such as cylinders, pumps, motors, valves, pipes, hoses, filters, gearboxes, bearing assemblies, etc.
- Maintain all fruit bagging equipment.
- Improve hydraulic circuits and systems in regards to stoppage of leaks, cleanliness of hydraulic oil, replacement of untidy pipes and hoses, etc.
- Select and specify hydraulic, mechanical and pneumatic and production equipment components for purchasing purpose.
- Maintains safety standards of equipment and work area according to established procedures and as instructed by the company.
- Inform the lead mechanic to the best of his ability about unusual things, faulty design, unsafe conditions, missing parts, etc.
- Maintain all conveyor belts and roller conveyors.
- Maintain all building equipment, I.E hot water heater, in floor heating, fire systems and ventilation.
- Perform weekly calibration of production equipment.
- Participate in ongoing training programs as required to maintain and enhance skills Manage Maintenance personnel
- Assign tasks and insure completion
- Work with Operation to schedule hours for personnel
- Manage water filtration system and ensure its operating as designed
- Ensure all building exits are cleared at all times, including snow removal from walkways / door driveways
- Administrative Responsibilities
- Keep all repair records up to date as required for food safety
- Document all maintenance repairs and complete work request in a timely manner
- Manage all suppliers and contractors as needed
- Maintain spare parts inventory.
- Maintain clean shop and work environment at all times.
- Follow Bay Growers purchasing policy and communicate with General Manager on monthly budget expenses and issues.
- Manage lawn care / grass cutting
- Follow GMP, food safety and health safety requirements
Job Terms
- Job Type: Permanent Full-time, 40 hours per week, adjustment pending on business needs
- Probationary Period: 3 months or 480 hours, whichever longer

- Shift Requirement: Monday to Friday - with overtime and weekend availability
- Compensation: $34.00 - $38.00 per hour, depending on experience

Qualifications
- Experienced Millwright or work in a manufacturing environment as a Maintenance Mechanic for a minimum of five years.
- Must have 5 yrs. plus experience with electrical and piping repairs
- Welding certificate for the province of Ontario- an asset
- Have a strong working knowledge of all welding equipment and supplies.
- Must have a strong background in troubleshooting and repairing Electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, and pneumatic systems.
- Must be able to read mechanical blue prints and electrical schematics.
- Must have experience in repairing and programming PLC and automated control systems.
- Must have experience in rigging hoisting and blocking.
- Must have experience with all types of material such as stainless steel, Aluminum, mild steel, wood plastics and rubber.
- Must have a strong knowledge of conveyors belts and systems.
- Must be able to install new production equipment when requested/ or assist outside contractors with new installations and repairs.
- Must be knowledgeable in health and safety and WHMIS
- Must have forklift license.
- Hold a valid Driver’s license.
- Good computer skills.
- Familiar with CMM and Preventative maintenance programs.
- Must be available to work weekends and after hours if required.
